Over the course of a summer, two teenage girls develop the perfect kindred spirit friendship, with one big problem: one of them is dating the other's ex.
Very happy to have this joining Booksmart and Lady Bird and The Edge Of Seventeen etcetera in the cmtcmadahahffrtfohteuwsgcu (comfort movies that care more about developing a healthy and honest female friendship rather than focusing on having them end up with some guy cinematic universe)
added to: quiet little female character studies, recs
I’ve never felt more attacked by anything than this movie’s portrayal of straight male Carly Rae Jepsen fans
romantic comedies that are ultimately about friendship are my absolute favorite. hannah marks and liana liberato are so adorable and they have the best on-screen chemistry ever, which isn't surprising since i just found out that they are best friends in real life!!!!! the soundtrack is so good and perfectly fits the vibrant and summery setting of the development of such a beautiful friendship. honestly, i would put this film up on the pedestal with booksmart—it's that enjoyable and relatable and makes you yearn for a friendship like april and clara's or molly and amy's.
banana split is one of those special films that by the time it's over, you feel privileged to have been able to spend time with the talented actors and the hilariously heartwarming story <3
i cant relate to/dont care about straight people at ALL and i completely tuned out when i realized the girls werent going to drop the boys and date each other
“But really, I was jealous that he was with you. I had a lot of fun with you this summer.”
THAT IS GAY!!!!!!! LET THEM KISS!!!!!!!
Benjamin Kasulke, in his directorial debut, attempts to bestow bold sentiments to some overfamiliar material that regrettably lacks the heartwarming ornamentations required between the connectivity of the camaraderie of its central characters of April and Clara. It's a genuine shame that it's mostly a misfire because if the script were anywhere near as electrifying as some of the cinematography from Darin Moran then this coming-of-age female friendship film would have been both engaging and perceptive, despite it recalling Olivia Wilde’s invariably superior Booksmart.
Its treatment of the misplaced affections from the teenagers who are endeavouring to get past the heartache of who they both perceive to be the perfect boyfriend has an unfocused quality which is charmlessly catapulted around; further…
this is truly a difficult movie to rate because it is a comedy and there are many moments where the audience is supposed to laugh. i laughed at many of those. however, there are moments in every movie where you are not supposed to laugh and i laughed at many more of those.
A totally under the radar film that should be as popular as Booksmart. It’s funny, filthy and so much better than your average run of the mill teen comedy. Filmed in 2018 but only released this year? Strange. Anyway, if you want a cool movie in the same kind of vein as Booksmart then check this out. Great to see young female characters like this.
Clever title with some surprising experimentation but it’s more or less the same shit you expect with these kinda movies
Me siento como Miley cuando tuvo que ver Los Juegos del hambre, viendo a su ex en pantalla, pero viendo 88 minutos del doppelganger de la persona a la que he querido más en el mundo.
Banana Split has such phenomenal pacing, it moves along so fluently, so it’s such a shame with how much film it tries to pack into the last fifteen minutes. Another ten minutes or so would have worked an absolute treat.
A lot of fun with some genuine laughs thanks to a great cast, especially Addison Riecke and Luke Spencer Roberts.
great cinematography, great characters, great writing, interesting concept! this movie was so cute I loved it so muchhh! <3 :)
Very well written. Subverts a lot of tropes. The actors do not look like high school kids though.
