If I took away anything from this movie, it was a greater appreciation for The Dark Knight.

i very rarely resonate with middle-aged caucasian men especially pretentious gits like chr*stopher n*lan, but apparently he was so fascinated with cillian murphy's eyes that he kept trying to find reasons for him to remove his glasses in scenes and honestly, that is such a big eternal lifelong mood

To this day it baffles me why Cillian Murphy isn't more famous.

Did not remember this feeling so close to the Tim Burton Batman movies, but it does. Bale lumbers around awkwardly in a giant rubber suit, the bad guy wants to gas the city into submission, and Gotham is stylized and nightmarish with giant monorails and a slum called “The Narrows.” That’s not necessarily a criticism or a compliment, merely an observation. Batman didn’t go full Nolan until The Dark Knight.

This has aged nicely, at least up until the big action finale that in no way delivers. The rest is very good. The opening flashes forwards and back are particularly elegant, and the movie is generally much funnier than I remembered, with both Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine supplying an abundance of wry quips.

Solid enough up until the third act. The whole water thing is stupid and the last 25 minutes is basically just exposition. World building is still good and steps everything up for Dark Knight well. Side note: what’s with all the people turning their own quotes against each other in this movie.. it’s done like 20 times too much haha

Nolan got Batman right with this one. This film is dark and gritty and is hands down the best origin story to a comic book character, it’s kinda hard not to love this film it’s destined to be a classic of the super hero genre.

I’m not a big fan of superhero movies, but I’ve heard great things about this trilogy and I knew I had to watch it because of Christopher Nolan and the incredible cast.

I really enjoyed this film! The cinematography was beautiful and the direction was amazing (of course, because y’know, Christopher Nolan).
The script and performances made me really invested in the characters and the plot, despite not knowing much about them beforehand. It explained the backstory really well for a novice like me, but didn’t allow it to become too slow-paced.

My one “critique” would be that Cillian Murphy is too hot for me to be like “oh no! the villain! fuck you villain!” ... but I’m willing to overlook that because I like sexy psychopaths...

SWWWWEEEEEAARRRR TO MEEEEEEEE

the real magic trick of this movie is that the first 30-40 minutes are basically just talking, a pretty bold choice for your superhero movie in 2005. and we’re talking heady, moral philosophy talk. we don’t hear “i’m batman” until what, nearly an hour in or later?

it sets the level for a monument trilogy with a grounded, believable first chapter in what could’ve been a deeply silly, just ridiculous movie. but it still manages to have fun and not become too self-serious and dour. just a spectacular balancing act that doesn’t get its due in such a banner franchise.

pretty boring, BUT it reminds me about how SNL said Katie Holmes cannot tap dance so they put Will Ferrell next to her to make her look better.

this was seriously lacking some villain action and what i mean is i wanted much more cillian murphy.

So good and I fancy Christopher Nolan

This film manages to make Batman's origin more personal than any of the other films.
