Spawn as Bone a recently released con who knows how to throw a punch. Kimbo the Bimbo. Piss chat. Bathroom beatdown. Redd Foxx's cousin. Real motherfuckers don't wear hair curlers. Hammerman? Kareem Said after Oz. Rufio the Lost Boy. Lights out motherfucker. Cock conversation. Everyone loves Wang Chung. Friendly puppy dogs. Fighting like a Haywire girl. Michael Jai White is one of the most underrated fighters in cinema. Extreme Tai Chi. Wasted ganja. Ho' chasin'. Motherfuckets? Blast from the past. Praying to the porcelain god. White knight? Warlock? You don't fuck with people from Pittsburgh. Crack whore snitch with a twitch. Roundhouse kick. Handless wangsta. Michael Jai White is the real deal with a fist, gun, or sword. Maybe he…
Both Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins are terrific martial artists who have made a career out of acting, and in particular in the action genre of films; however, their talents are gone to waste as they are reduced to straight-to-DVD offerings such as this one. Blood and Bone isn't necessarily a bad film: but take away Jai White and this movie just isn't that watchable. He is super quick and his punches and kicks strike fear against any opponent - yet the story is ordinary, trite with some terrible dialogue consisting of F-words, the direction isn't that good and with Dante, formerly of Hook-fame, effing and blinding as he plays an annoying little promoter. It's all right I guess... for a low budget action flick; the action, which is rather good at times & thanks to Jai White himself, saves it from being completely awful. Otherwise, there are countless other better movies of this type, elsewhere.
Michael Jai White is yuuuuuuuuuge!
A lot better than Falcon Rising if you ask me.

Stunts - 80/100 | Okay the guys are often obviously lining up just to get hit but I still liked it because, well, our hero here is just so slick with its movements that it ends up working.
Narrative - 61/100 | Expected pure trash due to this being a direct-to-video title, got something a little bit better. Still, serviceable at best.
Fight Choreography - 81/100 | Good albeit straightforward choreography that's just carried by Michael Jai White big time. The final fight was pretty nice even if it was a bit anti-climactic, I love how cocky the dude gets (For real though, who…
Been a while since I watched this. I totally forgot how great the fights were.
The film also features the best use of Wang Chung in any movie, including that one Friedkin flick.
A serviceable story with solid to good performances, but the only reason this is remotely watchable as an action movie is because of prime Michael Jai White. The style is so uninspired, though. A real far cry from the energy of a Florentine, or the creativity of a Yuen Woo-ping. The camera doesn't seem to know how to emphasize impact in the slightest, making most of the fights downright uninvolving. Maybe it isn't fair to hold it up against those but how can you not when it's trying to play the same game?
This movie is badass! You get some pretty solid performances. Michael Jai White proves again why he is one of the best and most underrated action stars today. Eamonn Walker makes a great villain. What I like about this villain is that he's pretty much an evil version of White's character, which makes for some interesting confrontations between the two. The fight scenes are intense, exciting, and pretty badass. The story is compelling and interesting. This is one of those rare fight movies that actually has a good story. My only problems were that the last fight was a bit underwhelming and the film itself has too many coincidences for me to buy into. Nonetheless, if you want to see a film with great fight scenes, a great story, and you wanna see Michael Jai White kick some ass, this is a must see.
Aside from the JOHN WICK series and a few others, if you're looking for well-shot and choreographed action after 2005, your best bet is either Southeast Asia, or Direct-To-Video.
This is one of the first great examples of the latter. BLOOD AND BONE takes a whole bunch of well-worn tropes (underground fighting, MMA cameos, a mysterious hero, etc), and then places a good twist on just about every one. It is entertaining and surprising the whole way through.
None of that would work without Michael Jai White, Eamonn Walker, and JJ Perry, the choreographer. The fights are clear and energetic and well-paced, and White and Walker bring A-level acting to all of their scenes.
I know I have said this about several movies, but this may be at the very top of my "Why The Fuck Didn't We Get A Sequel To This?!?" list. There are so many good angles they could have used!
Lastly, Michael Jai White is beautiful.
Michael Jay White becomes a street fighter after being released from prison in order to get to a criminal who killed his buddy in prison...
After having watched so many Scott Adkins films I have adapted to post 90s (US) B action cinema and also have learned to much more appreciate the physical action taking place in these movies.
Like Adkins, Michael Jay White is pretty damn good at fighting plus he has enough charisma to carry his own movie (see also FALCON RISING). BLOOD AND BONE doesn't really demand more than being a total badass and MJW delivers. He fights everybody to pieces and I appreciated that gun play was kept to a minimum here as it's never as…
Fresh out of prison (obviously) Isaiah Bone (Michael Jai White) slips straight into the world of underground bare knuckle fighting, although it has to be said that these open air illegal no holds barred events do tend to come complete with a DJ and light show, so they don't exactly fly under the radar. Is he just out for a quick payday, or does he have some other agenda?
Yeah, it's the other agenda thing.
There is an awful lot of insufferable characters being terribly 'street', as I believe the young people say, early on. They be like 'yo waddup muthafucka' and shit.
Worse than that the fights tend to last barely a minute, particularly when Mr…
This is a ghetto fabulous flick. Think "fight movie". Every cliche you thought of is here. Michael Jai White is an ex convict called Bone with a set of ass kicking skills that make him a star in the underground fighting circuit and a threat to a local gangster played with intensity by Eamonn Walker. Great use of Wang Chung's hit Dance Hall Days. Beautiful big breasted Nona Gaye plays the righteous sista and real life fighters Maurice Smith, Kimbo Slice and even another beautiful big breasted ass kicking Gina Carano make their contributions to this terrible but entertaining fight flick. For more ghetto fabulousness from this director check out Love and a Bullet. Even his script for the Mark Wahlberg flick The Big Hit is full of ghetto fabulous shit. And O'Hara lives!
I mean... this was perhaps not the best film to start my new Weeknight Choice Paralysis: DEFEATED!! plan with. Or perhaps it was the perfect choice because the only way is up from here?
I'm pretty sure an article I was reading about martial arts films compelled me to add this to my watchlist but I now realise that said article was not written by anyone with taste.
Whole thing looks like it's been filmed either inside or outside a derelict school disco. Every set looks like a set that's yet to be an actual set. Or, at least, what was left over of a porn set.
It's such an 80s throwback but TOTALLY unintentionally and not to any of…
One of the great injustices in this world is that Michael Jai White never became a huge star. That could potentially still happen, but I doubt it. It's like Hollywood didn't know what to do with this absolute beast of a man, this masterpiece of muscle. He is everything in this (sort of) low-budget movie, and I'm quite convinced it would have sucked without his specific presence. Essentially, it's a pretty standard street fighting film with a little camp (though I'm unsure of how much of it was intentional) and a little bit of awful dialogue.
The fight scenes are excellent and brutal - especially the last one - and I have to admit that the villain James (Eamonn Walker)…

My dude Bone!!! Pretty cool martial arts movie. Good stunt work and not too long either. I liked that it was about honoring a promise instead of just street fighting. You can tell some of the shots within the fight that they’re just punching a camera lol. It’s just edited with quick cuts to try to hide that. There was a good story here but it was underwritten. Still a fine enough time if you like fighting movies. It was noice revisiting this.
This delivers massively on the fight scenes and that’s all I ask of my martial art movies
Eammon Walker's villain performance truly elevates this film.
The action is pretty badass. Michael Jai White is a perfect leading man and I really wanna see him in more action films.
Yes, the movie has plenty of technical flaws but as always, I don't care.
Black History 5/28
Michael Jai White, vulgo Scott Adkins negro. É isso mesmo que você leu, sua piranha, eu gosto de filme de luta de baixo orçamento
Respect to Michael Jai White, but imagine thinking is a good movie--even if you've seen literally any martial arts movie before this.
