1977 ‘Das Frauenhaus’ Directed by Jesús Franco
Blue Rita runs a nightclub and gases and kidnaps men there for her pleasure and torture.
Das Frauenhaus Blue Rita, Le cabaret des filles perverses, Blue Rita: To cabaret ton diestrammenon, The Women's Shelter
Jess Franco: "Pippi Longstocking is entertaining, sure, but what that show really needs is a scene of her nakedly fondling Michelangelo's statue of David.."
Me: This man is a visionary!
My 27th Franco.
Really hit the spot. You know, along with my favorite vibrator.
This film literally opens with a bunch of titties and ass dancing naked in fuck me boots and just gets better from there.
Fantastic plastic decor and wild sex in a cage with a gas mask and chains.
When I think of the last couple years I really should have just invested in a good cage and kidnapped Punto. How different my psyche would be now. That's real female empowerment!
This film inspired me to buy 3 wigs before it was over.
strange, almost futuristic dreamscape where a fashionable group of beautiful women kidnap men to torture and elicit info from
packed to the brim with flair - go-go boots, metallics, white room w/ naked bodies and clear, inflatable, plastic furniture, pamela stanford’s flashy jumpsuits <3, neon blue n pink nightclub acts, hazy with cigarette smoke and fog machines, sexual experimentation, green sex potions, pink healing potions, men screaming in desire and desperation “I NEED TO SLEEP WITH YOU!”, rita’s blue-purple wig - i wish i could live in this movie
not the best franco plot-wise, but undoubtedly a stylish romp
An unrepentantly terrible softcore stripper spy caper that should have won awards for set decoration on an extreme budget. I’m pretty sure most of the decor came from the european dollar store, along with all the aluminum foil the cast & crew could scrounge up from their houses.
So yes, obviously I liked it! Blue Rita and her “troop of lesbians” may not be very good spies, but they have a lovely strip club to boast of. They also invented a new kind of paint that causes psychosexual torture, which is impressive I guess. Nice work everyone.
Jess-meister back in comic-book mode, thankfully more along the lines of Girl From Rio's dominatrix dystopia than Lucky the Inscrutable's ghastly Bond spoof. A smoke-machined morass of bare flesh, men with guns, government spies and capital 'I' intrigue against a backdrop of modernist 70s decor that crams its plot into the last few minutes. Just another flurry of Franco tropes - a stripclub as a front for an extortionist racket (Les Ebranlees), a toxic goo that drives victims mad with arousal (Shining Sex), an entire 'love' scene filmed through a fishtank (Succubus), a Pippi Longstocking cabaret artiste whose big finish is molesting Michelangelo's David (Kiss Me Killer), another performer who gives head to a Ganesh-codpiece's…
say what you like about Jess, but he knew what he wanted from a film and very often got it. Like here with Blue Rita, barely enough budget to cover all the doors in tin foil or make the night club look very different from a waiting room, he got the girls, he got them to take off their clothes and he used lights and what props he had to make a ravishingly attractive piece of nonsense. here is the most elegant of soft core movies that also includes torture (albeit with green paint and promise/denial of sex) of gents in chains. Whole scenes are shot through fish tanks and although there is some sort of spy storyline, it makes no sense and can be completely ignored. Whoopee!
Finally, I watch a Jess Franco film where it's actually set in a strip club! He can finally have bizarre dangerous sex shows that are actually part of the plot! Even the back of the box promised me a good time "Dance, Gas, Kidnap, Torture... Repeat."
Unfortunately, it was pretty boring... Outside of the go-go boots and the women torturing men by making them super horny - there wasn't much going for this film. Where's Lina Romay? She would've made this film a full star better! Instead we get a bunch of less than memorable women prancing around naked... And the titular Blue Rita, played by Marianne Flety? What's so interesting about her? Other than she's called BLUE Rita and wears a PURPLE wig... TWO STARS!
Now I've seen a whopping 109 Jess Franco movies! This was very enjoyable. How about that Pippi Longstocking scene?
Jess Franco darf hier frei drehen. Wilde Kameraeinstellungen. Kunterbunte Beleuchtung. All dass in einem Agententhriller über Spione in einem Stripclub, geleitet von einer rachsüchtigen Frau. Das alles ist Unterhaltsam und macht Spaß,
The cinematography & minimalist set design is so ill. I've watched this so many times but only now understand Franco's weird, low budget remake of his THE GIRL FROM RIO. This comes from a period where he really started criticizing Marxist-Leninist communism more in his work. He sympathizes & refuses to pass judgment on its brutality but ultimately sees it as no match for Western capitalism. The"good guys" win and the dreams of radical revolution are crushed but Franco leaves us feeling cheated and resentful towards the rightwing justice seen in typical spy/police yarns. Subversive.
Franco pulling out the well-framed yet
inflatable landscape of torture erotica..
Colors are overly saturated, bodies are
sweating, nothing really matters or makes
the best of sense in such a near-psychedelic
cult procedure.. yet, here is the typical phantom..
the slave to sweet excretion.. a preponderance
of sensual self.. or so I am to believe being so
drunk... a fever so unstable..

I was so inspired by Uncle Jess's visuals here, I made a Mood Board out of them. (Note: NSFW images abound.)
What an un-sexy, sexy movie. Wow. So conflicted. Boobs and nonsense. Yeah, it's good. Boobies win.
There's some pretty cool pop art aesthetics, there's some 5/5 bums, but damn I checked out of far this way before the end.
It definitely has a so bad it's good quality, there's some hilarious action scenes, awful judo chops and bad shooting. It's glorious. There is also some funny dialogue, however a lot of the dialogue is basically unbearable because of the absolutely shocking dub.
The plot as well is basically not there, it feels like an afterthought after the director released attractive naked women isn't enough.
I can definitely see the appeal of this though, so unashamedly sleazy, some weird visuals and nudity. It does have a lot going for it.

Lezdom spy (?) stuff that’s light on plot and long on unerotic writhing.
I was reminded why I’ve largely put off watching Franco’s oeuvre.
'Blue Rita' or 'Das Frauenhaus' is a very colorful and stylish piece of sexploitation pulp directed by Jess Franco. There isn't much plot to get in the way of the story and the story itself manages to be kept at a minimun and still be confusing. This one is all about the style and Franco really outdoes himself in some scenes. It's nice to see actor Eric 'Stileto' Falk in a different role for once and he's pretty good as a more likeable character, too. Another interesting change of pace is that this isn't really a women in prison film as you may first think, but almost the opposite. Franco fans will enjoy this.
BLUE RITA (1977) is a wild pop-art sci-fi extravaganza that quickly becomes repetitious, but at 77 minutes doesn't overstay its welcome. The late-70s Erwin C Dietrich era continues to be my least favourite period in Franco's career though.
