when i told my brother that my friends and i were watching this he scoffed and said "borat? that's kind of a straight white male movie," which i think is a gross misunderstanding of the text.

"straight white males" are typically not watching the movie through the lens of being attracted to borat. in this way we are subverting cultural expectations, reclaiming the film for ourselves and our pleasure. many viewers -- straight white male and otherwise -- also do not understand that the butt of the joke is not just borat, but the rampant ignorance deeply and historically ingrained in america. am i using academic language as an excuse to enjoy borat with minimal guilt? maybe. should borat probably not have said the n-word? maybe. is "wa wa wee wa" still funny after 14 years? absolutely. just call me borat pitt

In 2006, Sacha Baron Cohen found pockets of intolerance and misogyny that represented the worst of America. By 2020, those pockets had been handed social-media megaphones and real political power. A Borat movie back then felt like an expose. Here's hoping the new one feels like an exorcism.

I had seen so many people rave about how funny and outrageous Borat is so I decided to give it a watch — I can definitely confirm it’s outrageous.

Personally, this isn’t my humour or style at all. I could understand why other people find it funny and enjoy the humour, but it’s just not to my taste in the slightest.

This movie was an entire experience that I was not prepared for. I usually do not like this kind of humor, but I was laughing my ass off. It was so much fun to watch with a bunch of people who hadn’t seen it either. The shock value was real, but it just made for an overwhelmingly humorous experience.

• Sacha Baron Cohen is a hillarious comic mind and is one of the best comics of our time. Everything he does is outlandish and crazy but also incredibly funny.
• Borderline incredibly offensive
• A Surprisingly down to earth film with a truthful insight on how racist, homophobic and masochistic America can be. It showed a version of America without the deceitful Hollywood filter.

I try to only say good things about other people's creative works. If I don't care for something, I try to let it slide without comment.

But this is, without a doubt, one of the most reprehensible films ever made.

I'm a video editor. I know how easy it is to fool people with stunts like this. This clown spent a lot of time going around the country, goading people into reacting to him under false pretenses. He then took the gigantic amount of footage and cherry-picked that which showed people at their worst.

Two types of people like this movie: the gullible and sociopaths. Even if you claim to like it "ironically" (under the popular misuse of the word), it calls your opinions on just about everything else into question.
