GUYS!! I can now say that I have been featured in an A24 film. Wow, never thought I would say that. For those that have already seen the film, I am the kid that goes up to the stand and proposes that we relocate all Prius drivers to the state of Oklahoma. Wow, what a clip to be remembered by.
But in all seriousness, here is a review of Boys State from someone who actually attended 2018 Texas Boys State.
For the past two years, ever since I attended boys state, I have tried to explain to people what it was like to be there. I tried to explain what the people were like and what the atmosphere was like.…
“Ugh, I hate high school boys” - me posting a review to my audience of mostly high school boys
that ben shapiro wannabe losing his voice after one day of campaigning.. i have to laugh
the only person we do stan is rené, who was quietly listening to one of the forums, eating his planters peanuts, and wearing his tiny glasses on the end of his nose while looking like he’s already served on the supreme court for 30 years. which seems about right bc i imagine being a supreme court justice is about the same level of stress as spending a week with these little conservative boys yelling at each other
if you’re proud to be an american in 2020 please keep that shit to yourself it’s embarrassing
Rewatched for the podcast. What I kept thinking about, as I watched these boys fold politics into displays of unfettered masculinity, is the issue of reproductive rights. Such decisions get made easily and thoughtlessly without women in the room.
You can tell René is going places simply from the fact that he had a gallon of water on him at all times and you know the other boys did not drink a single glass of water in the entire week
Terrifying and inspiring in equal measure, but I guess that's the story of America.
Also, René's clapback at his near impeachment? Exquisite
This is how you make a Ted Cruz. We do not need more Ted Cruz (or any Ted Cruz)!!!
To tell the honest truth, this movie feels like a horror movie and has the adrenaline rush that you get from the tension of very suspenseful horror films mostly because of how real this film is to American life. When we watch the debates on tv or when we read political memes on Twitter, it is safe to say that the reaction you will get will become very divisive. I know this might sound cliche but we live in extremely divisive times where we sometimes don't even know what to believe and the film captivates that effortlessly.
Really good, well-made documentary about the titular youth program taking place in Texas in 2018, which focuses on a handful of teenage boys among hundreds of others with different political agendas and occasional discussions about real-world issues.
The BO coming off some of those t-shirts by the final day must be ungodly.
Following four high-school students through the Lord of the Flies-esque state government simulation after which the documentary is named, Boys State is fascinating. I cannot recommend it enough. I am now very excited for two inevitabilities:
1. Steven Garza's presidency.
2. The eventual release of Girls State
Probably the best film on american politics I've seen - also fuck white dudes, I just hate them
You know things are really bad when people are using comparisons to Ben Shapiro as compliments.
