So, like, you're telling me that this movie that I've owned for over a year isn't actually the Peter Jackson film about the person who gets bitten by a Sumatran rat monkey, no, but an old 1990s B-movie directed by No-One Important? Oh.

The elliptical confusion from one segment of reality to the next. So many moments seem familiar but different/extraneous but routine. The journey Dr. Rex Martin takes is filled with cerebral clues and unstructured imagery that manifests an objective reality. Bargaining with himself, with his partner, with Halsey, with the man in the white coat covered in blood. Having an open conversation with all of the people who play all of the roles in his head, but which are real? Who is real? Don't take the wrap around beginning and ending as truth. By virtue of what the film is, any number of the scenarios are as real as any other. From lemniscates to butterflies, Bill Pullman is Dougie Jonesing his way through his own lobotomy. An electric brain melt of memories and fears from frontal to temporal lobe. You can almost taste the metal and smell the toast. It's a BRAINSTORM, get it?? I know that I'M real.

I bought this solely because of that awesome poster art but DAMN what a wild ass movie.

The 90's biggest Bills co-star in a strange, psychosexual, Lynch-meets-Yuzna rabbit hole of reality: corporate lobotomies, a personality facelift, butterflies in the brain, and a grown Bud Cort playing a genius maniac who may or may not be real?! Just the type of weirdness I LOVE!!

I should not be giving it this much credit... there's no telling by the end what's actually going on, and I can understand if others feel cheated because of that. But I just had so much fun on the way there. Every single scene is a delight. Reality is in the mind, and we're all just brains on a shelf....

Love it. An instant favorite.

Brain Dead is a stretched-out Twilight Zone episode about a brain scientist who has suffered a brain injury. Or has he? Or IS he? It’s an okay movie but just too dragged out. Honestly, the producers should have realized “Bill Pullman (main character) wakes up from a dream” shouldn’t have to happen nearly a dozen times. Smarter brains can see that this is too repetitive for a single script.

The power Bill Paxton has to get me to watch hot garbage 😙

Listen, this movie has a scene where Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton give a boardroom presentation to George Kennedy on the topic of lobotomizing Bud Cort. Get the fuck out.

One of those movies that wants to get in your head but ultimately has very little to say, or show me. If you can't pull it off, keep things simple. It's not total garbage but I almost dislike it more for being as exciting as watching Bill Pullman lose his mind while it should have been as exciting as watching Bill Paxton lose his mind. Why should I trust A: the director of Carnosaur, and B: a director who doesn't even know which is clearly the superior Bill? Lol'd when I recognized Mike from the Seinfeld parking space episode as the hobo who thinks Pullman stole his brain.

Dcotor goes wackadoo! This movie relatable because the man kills his wife and kids. Oh if only I had thought of that before ha ha. I been to prisom though and it ain’t no walk around the park. 9 time outta 10 I regret it after. Anyways definitely watch this movie for a good brain twizzler! There so many twist I thought it was Shalamar but turn out it’s some other guy. I was the edge of seat the whole time my Hungry Man dinner get cold. Strange, confusing and yet I honestly enjoyed every minute of it.

This really is a great story and idea, but the movie just looks awful and moves sluggishly.

Didn't grab me. I want to give it another chance though. There's a lot going on here that I really should like.

I feel kinda brain dead myself after watching this. It's one of the most wierd movies I've seen. In a way it's simple and yet it gives you so many twists and turns and ideas you end up going crazy trying to piece it all together or figure out what is really real. It is mostly more psychological thriller and less gory horror, but there is a but of that too. One scene in particular(the closet) is the scariest moment in a film I've seen in quite a while. It is a little amauturish, but totally worth watching. Even if you guess the ending you'll still be wonding if even that is real...

Much better than the 17% Rotten tomatoes score would have you believe. It's a bit of a conceptual mess, but it's entertaining enough.

Basically a full length 80s Twilight Zone or 90s Outer Limits episode.

From Charles Beaumont, the prolific writer for the original Twilight Zone, comes this twisty reality blurring thriller. Adam Simon directs the material smoothly so the dreams-within-dreams fractured narrative never feels gimmicky. Bill Pullman plays the victim of an evil mega firm. Or is he? Bill Paxton is his slick imp who may be invisible to everyone else. Most of the film takes place in a sanitarium, making it a spiritual cousin to Shock Corridor. The anti corporate vibes are more muted than the blunt social commentary of Fuller’s masterpiece. This overlooked cult flick is one of the last great authentic psychotronic movies.
