Ultimate proof that, for better or worse, Wes Craven was a true auteur. Not one drop of blood is spilled. Nobody dies. Nothing supernatural happens. And yet every frame of this feels like The People Under the Stairs re-cut for the Disney Channel.
It's certainly as goofy as one would imagine from a Wonderful World of Disney made-for-television film from the mid-1980's, but Casebusters makes its silliness charming and endearing in a way that only the late great director Wes Craven — Yes! That Wes Craven! — could do so (with the help of a capable cast too) and it's worth watching if only for how much it stands out in sharp contrast to the rest of his filmography.
If you had told me an hour ago the synopsis of this film and what it is and then gave me 100 chances to guess who directed it, never in a million years would I have even considered Wes Craven as a possibility. This is absurd.
Safe, harmless, mildly amusing kids TV movie, cheesy to the fucking teeth with some prime 80's music. I'm also 100% convinced that Wes Craven has done this after losing a very bad bet.

Never in a million years would I have guessed that this was directed by Wes Craven.
A sister and brother go to visit their grandfather, who runs a private security service. They begin sleuthing around, and discover some bad neighbors plotting a counterfeiting scheme. It’s pretty good. Noah Hathaway sucks and is boring, just like he is in Neverending Story, but the girl (Virginya Keehne) is great, and is more the focus.

This somehow seemed like a prototype to The People Under The Stairs. How bizarre.
Wes Craven loved Los Angeles and really disliked the police. A man after my own heart.
If you watch this as a spiritual predecessor to The People Under the Stairs, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Classic Wes Craven. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, Disney Channel's Casebusters.
A fine little made for TV movie--that feels like a pilot, so it probably was intended to be a continuing series--I can imagine myself having watched it as a kid. I didn't of course, but it's just the type of thing.
I didn't realise this was a wes craven film given that it was made for TV.
Wes baby did you really need the money that bad or did you lose a bet?
This isn't that bad but it's so incredibly dull and mundane that it really feels that bad. Don't ever watch this
I'm guessing this was a pilot that wasn't picked up and thus it became a Wonderful World of Disney Sunday Night film. It's fine and only 45 min long. I'm sure I would've enjoyed it when I was very little.

I'M INCLUDING THIS IN MY JOURNEY THROUGH WES CRAVEN'S FILMOGRAPHY BECAUSE WHY NOT!
Guess what....it's fine. It's weirdly horrific but honestly...you can do much worse with any of the "Magical World of Disney" shorts/movies from the 80s.
