“It’s ok not to know all the answers. It’s better to admit our ignorance than to believe answers that might be wrong. Pretending to know everything closes the door to finding out what’s really there.”
I literally learned more watching this 9 hour series than I did in 4 years of high school science classes.
Some episodes are hit and miss, but when they hit, they hit. At it's best, Cosmos is informative, entertaining and eye-opening. Tyson brings such a presence that you feel like he's your grandfather, teaching you everything he knows before he dies. Bit morbid, but you get the idea, you have to take it in, you know.
When the show misses, however, it's essentially a light show with a guy reading Wikipedia articles over it. Luckily that doesn't happen often, though.
And watching Neil DeGrasse Tyson stave off a wolf is one of the best things I've ever seen. I replayed it as soon I saw it. Classic shit. Cosmos is definitely a series people have to watch if science is their dig. Even if it isn't, Tyson will MAKE IT YO' DIG.
literally the best fucking thing to watch when you're tripping, i woke up feeling like a brand new person who had experienced deepest spiritual enlightenment
A visually Stunning experience and a wealth of information, one of those Eye openers Programs that everyone should Watch, Well Not Everyone but to those looking for a documentary on science and space, Cosmos is definitely the One.
this is so beautiful and really well done! i loved the animated history segments, for me they were the most engaging parts of the show.... neil degrasse tyson waxing poetic on the infinite mysteries of our universe at length can cause many an existential crisis so... zoning out whilst playing solitaire on my phone is sometimes preferred
but
uhhhhhhhhhhhh we’re so fucked, the next great mass extinction is coming lads
thanks for hyping my existential crisis again, NDT and Carl Sagan!! I literally feel like dust right now.
jokes aside (jokes on me), how life and this universe has came about and continue to do so is one of the most beautiful stories of happenstance ever told (and it is still being written).
[We’re not afraid to admit what we don’t know. There’s no shame in that. The only shame is to pretend that we have all the answers.]
Knowledge and entertainment.
From now on when I see the sky, stars, moon and sun there will be so many things that will come in my mind and I'll know some answers about them.
All this talk about time and space and they never ONCE thought to use a flux capacitor. Idiots.
I experience this on a spiritual level, everytime.
Upon today's viewing: I wanted to grab a handful of dirt and cry. And become a trillionaire just to sway the perception of scientists to have the clout of Rockstars. I wanna see kids dress up as scientists for Halloween damnit!
You wrote how to find us on Voyager missions are you dumb did you ever watch a sci fi movie?
I was higher than a kite watching this, amazing experience, and it's so easy to like and understand Neil, great job everyone involved
