exceptionally lovely short anthology about a beautiful dress that curses its adolescent wearers. strong color design and numerous bits of small character animation goes a long way to portraying the pains of a teenage girl and giving life to the world around them.
sadly the director, Kigami was one of the victims of the KyoAni arson, but i’m glad there’s a very nice copy of this out there for people to appreciate.
A nice little spooky short: someone closer to the characters' age would get the most out of it, but it's good enough that anyone can enjoy it.
3.5/5 stars
Neat little early 90s OVA that feels very much in line with the sort of kid-friendly, "comfy" horror stuff that had its heyday around that time. This could easily be remade into an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark or Goosebumps and not feel at all out of place.
A cursed dress is passed around to three teenaged girls who are all dealing with typical adolescent stuff, and the dress' influence exasperates their situations to the point where each of them "break" in some way. I like how each story escalates the circumstances. The first one has a breakdown and attacks her crush, but gets out of the situation with some scrapes and the shame of forcing her…
Mom says I can’t wear it because it doesn’t suit someone as young as me. Then she calls me childish for wearing it. I’d give it back if I could. But I don’t know who gave it to me. I’m not sure it’s even there anymore. I don’t want to find out either of those things. I don’t want to make it real. It’s my skin but I can’t feel it. I don’t want to live with it. I don’t need it. I can’t live without it.
So beautiful and haunting. Unlike most horror anime from the 90s, this one focuses less on the gore and violence and more on the human fears that exist deep down in most of us. In this case, the fear of growing up, changing, losing your sense of identity, being driven by your instincts and being crushed by the responsibilities and expectations of adulthood.
In a cartoonish and stylized story, Cursed One-Piece manages to be more terrifying and honest than most tentacle rape demon hunting badass fighting and shooting anime OVAs that infested the genre at the time. Not only that but it's also sweet and cute in a non creepy way (which is saying a lot considering most "cute" anime comes off as super creepy to me personally)
A must-watch

Short three part anthology calls to mind the supernatural nature that is imparted on objects that is so common in Japanese folklore, mixed with the desire and insecurities of young determined adolescent love.
Each short, while its central theme is the same all maintain their own individual characteristics that draw you in.
The fluid and simple animation is a plus 🤗

Lo encontré en Youtube dividido en tres partes, una por cada historia en la antología.
