Ich find's einfach wunderbar, wenn Präsident Morgan Freeman alle 5 Minuten der Menschheit erklären muss, dass die Überlebenschancen soeben noch tiefer gesunken sind.

There's a dirty joke here somewhere, I just know it. And also a consistently entertaining, underappreciated and even poignant disaster gem. Deep Impact > Armageddon is all I'm saying. Good thing the suspense never relied on Téa "Miss Personality" Leoni.

Morgan Freeman is the best movie President.

It's Armageddon for nerds. Deep Impact is exactly what you expect it to be and never stops being exactly what you expect it to be. In that respect it's so comfortable it's effectively disaster competence porn. I'm not trying to say that it is bad because it's not but I'm not trying to say it's good either because it's not... it's just Deep Impact and that's okay. There are people you are supposed to care about and you kind of do I guess. There are action scenes that are pretty okay I guess but nothing special. It might be the most average movie I have ever watched. For the rest of time I'll think "was this movie better or worse than Deep Impact?"

This is such a good disaster movie because it’s just so earnest with its message and I really love it for that. The story is split among multiple characters’ points of view and I like that because you can see how different people would deal with an event like this. It’s what it means to be alive and how you would face your life knowing it was going to soon come to an end. Who do you cling to in those final moments? What do you resolve? Do you sacrifice yourself and strive for survival? Humanity is so complex and interesting to observe on this level. 

This movie isn’t perfect; it’s messy and it’s sappy. But I really like what it’s going for and seeing a movie that shows when people are pushed to the brink of catastrophe, they will choose love and perseverance. It’s a comfortable movie. And Baby Elijah Wood so cute!!!

Although I'm sure that the space rock hit hard, and deep, it all still didn't have much of an impact. There is a strange continuous shift between characters, with the result that in the end it didn't seem like there was a true main character and with that no one to really root for, as there isn't given a real chance to get invested in them. It's also way too melodramatic, which makes the "emotional" scenes feel rather empty and the lack of action for most of its running time didn't really help either, as it doesn't provide that many thrills, at least not till the final act starts. There are a few strong performances. Most notably Robert Duvall and Morgan Freeman are convincing, but they couldn't safe Deep impact from being a clichéd, overly dramatic, at times utterly illogical, incoherent and patriotic mess of a film with only a few brief moments of sparkling emotion and thrilling action.

If you enjoyed films such as "The Day After Tomorrow" or "2012", then "Deep Impact" should be right up your alley. Released in the late 90s, this by Mimi Leder ("Thick as Thieves", On the Basis of Sex") directed film has not only a quite impressive cast (Morgan Freeman, Elijah Wood, Robert Duvall, James Cromwell, Leelee Sobieski, etc.), but also delivers big time in story telling. Seeing Morgan Freeman ("The Shawshank Redemption", "Outbreak") pulling off the role as president of the UNited States is always a pleasure. I can't even say how many times I have watched this film by now, but each time I absolutely enjoy it to the fullest. Needless to say, that "Deep Impact" is not only worth to be watched, but also to be part of your collection. A typical 90s blockbuster popcorn flick, which you can easily watch on a long movie night together with "Armageddon", to just name one more. Great film!

Esses dias assisti Greenland e incrível como ele mama desse. São muitas coisas parecidas. Serviu muito de inspiração. Oq mais sinto falta nesses filmes são efeitos especiais melhores. Imagino que muita cena seja limitada por isso.

Slightly better than Armageddon, I liked the way how they managed to make a common and overused story a little bit interesting, but the truth is it's still a pretty basic film in all aspects.

These always end the same way, with dead heros and a saved earth. And a memorial speech for them.

It’s a good disaster movie but I think several characters are a bit miscast and didn’t quite hit the emotional notes they should’ve at times.

Legitimately underrated and actually emotionally affecting.

Deep Impact is certainly superior to Armageddon but that doesn't mean that it's a particularly good film. Its biggest issue is that there isn't a clearly-defined protagonist, instead giving us four or so main characters who we don't get enough time to build any meaningful connections with.

The end result is a film too serious to be fun but too melodramatic and unfocused to be truly compelling. It's not hard to imagine a more ideal version of Deep Impact and it's a shame that we'll almost certainly never get to see it.

Very similar to Armageddon. Saw this in theaters when it came out and liked it. Idk if either movie aged well but they’re a fun ride.
