"8 weeks to complete a couture collection"
No one mentioned that this was a thriller!?
hi i'm 5'5" but am very interested in wearing ballgowns who will make me a supermodel
Compared to the Ralph Lauren documentary I saw earlier this year, Dior and I was not very interesting to the audience. By the end of the Lauren documentary (Very Ralph), I wanted my whole wardrobe to be Ralph Lauren clothes (minus the non-vegan clothes that were made out of wool and down feathers for example). By the end of the Dior documentary, I really couldn't care less about anything Dior.
My notes were erased, so I don't really remember if there were too many things that would or would not fit within a vegan lifestyle. It was overall very boring, but one model's style stood out (Esther Heesch) toward the end. Otherwise, I would give this documentary a hard pass.
september scavenger hunt (#54) // (8/30)
task 9 - watch a movie about fashion
dior and i is an enthralling, captivating, inviting, enraptured porthole into the torrential and frenzied industry of fashion (with a specific eye pointed towards the dior fashion house), alternating between its founder and its current ship captain, and the bridge (plank? no?) connecting the two. i found this documentary to be both amazing and completely breathtaking. it sucked me in from the very first moment and did not let me go the entire runtime. i'm so so happy i chose this one for the task. absolutely beautiful and sensational, charged with a worker bee maddened energy that is palpable in every frame. i've never seen the…
Raf "I'm not a minimalist and I'll prove it by doing the absolute most with this flower filled palace" Simons
Well, this is a biased rating, first off, because I love fashion and have yearned for such a film to come by, and now it has! But non-fashion lovers might still like this for its educational value, and there is a proper build-up to the climax which occurs at the very end of the documentary. If finding out what goes on behind the making of a new season's couture line interests you at all, then this is a must-watch.
A slight and simple documentary brimming with style and punctuated with gorgeous, almost unworldly melodies. The credits music is The XX (Reunion) if that gives you any indication of the level of calm, slick, cool that permeates this thing.
It tells a story about a man (Raf Simons) crafting his name under the weight of expectation with his first show for Dior, but moreso under the heavy shadow of his predecessor, the master, Christian Dior. It's clear from the start he is an artist and a visionary, uncompromising. And while the film never really digs in deeply enough, we do quite a lot of interesting and tense moments as he enters the house of Dior and immediately butts heads with…
e eu chorei.
This document does a good job showing the many hands that go into a show like this. I cared much more about the atelier workers and their dynamic than the artistic pontificating of Raf Simons.
i know this is like, a documentary or whatever.. but Raf Simons as the creative director of Dior?! he's a goddamn minimalist! you oughta be kidding me. who made this casting decision.
Cool glimpse into Raf’s creative process and the lovely ladies of the atelier, but the production wasn’t as interesting.
"it's not the past that's romantic for me, it's the future."
rewatching this reminded me of just how much i loved this documentary when i was in high school and also of the (brief) couture-obsessed phase i went through shortly thereafter lol. not sure how revolutionary it is on the filmmaking side but witnessing the creative process of designing and putting together a couture show was (and is still) so fascinating to me. and how could you not be inspired by that green "gangster rothko" dress? or the all-flower rooms that lined the catwalk? or the fact that raf simons still owns a brick phone in the year of our lord 2015? raf simons and his cargo shorts + turtleneck + oxford outfit combos are truly a treasure to behold!
I love art & love & romanticism & people & fashion & parallels and so obviously, of course, naturally, intrinsically, I love "dior & I" <3
put this on last night to try to subset all of the sounds I was hearing after being wired from playing like 8 hours of overwatch yesterday. it truly makes my heart flutter the entire time and i think it’s sooooo fascinating. This documentary and playing Moira on OW that is.
I feel a tad guilty for not finishing out hell year strong with a bunch of movies but I’ve been reading dune in my free time instead of watching things and I guess that’s fine but I do miss the sensation of logging 3 things a day and letting everyone know I have absolutely nothing going on. I’ll do that again soon. Hope everyone is having a nice holiday season and if you have overwatch on the switch please contact me we have work to do
one of my favorites I watched this year. this is
theeeeeee most sublime documentary ever made. I could watch Raf mull over things forever!
