me when christoph waltz smoothly talks his way out of death threatening situations: thats my aesthetic that is what i want to achieve
"Gentlemen, you had my curiousity. But now, you have my attention."
Calvin Candie
Quentin Tarantino has had my attention since the very first time I saw Pulp Fiction. It was the first film I ever saw where one of the first words that came to mind was masterpiece! It was my first Tarantino, I've seen everything he's directed since and I've been impressed every damn time. In my opinion he simply doesn't make bad films.
So with everything I said in the above paragraph in mind, I went into Django Unchained with very high expectations.
HOLY SHIT! Tarantino not only meets my high expectations of him but he far exceeds them. Simply put he has created another masterpiece that will…
tarantino briefing his cast to say the n-word every sentence: some of y'all about to be real mad at me, but it must be said
It's not you, Django, it's me. At least I think it is.
First off, I do not like Westerns. At all. I had my hopes pinned on Mr. Tarantino to save the genre for me, but I'm afraid he didn't. Second, I love Tarantino. I have seen all his films and while not all his films are masterpieces, there are some true gems there. I also have no problems with the 'Tarantino universe' and his self-referential, homage/collage style. It works for me. And the ironic thing is that it is exactly that that seems to be this film's biggest flaw. More on that later, first the good bits.
The acting is absolutely superb. The main trio of performances, with the…
It was only a matter of time before Tarantino tackled the Western directly. His career from the very beginning has openly referenced the genre and the great directors that made their name in it. What surprised me most about Django Unchained, his latest epic revenge fantasy, is that whilst it quite clearly references the likes of Leone, Corbucci and Sollima, as well as obscure and forgotten blaxploitation flicks, it is rarely a slave (if you pardon the pun) to the films it doffs its stetson too. Unlike Kill Bill which was essentially a finely tuned mixtape of homages and pastiches, here the references are background details and in that way this might be Tarantino’s most confident work in over a…
love seeing slavery exploitation films made by a white man who made a film where he said the n word to samuel l jackson for no reason and didn't receive any consequences, he's the type of man you want making a blaxploitation homage about slavery, one of the worst things to ever happen in the history of civilisation. maybe making schlocky westerns that stylise black men being forced to beat each other to death, black women being forced into hot boxes and being tortured and show a slow motion shot of dogs running to tear apart a runaway slave, is not the job of a white man who uses the word in his films with increasing regularity, a lot of…

"Who's that stumblin' around in the dark? State your business or prepare to get winged!"
A beginning shrouded in the iciness of the woods. America is at a point where even a tumbling wagon with a waggling tooth on top can signal the forthcoming force of death. Slave-owners, fugitives, and other scumbags of varying maliciousness don't just explode when shot. In fact, they practically expand across the walls in an uproarious fury, sending blood and guts to splatter against every cowering surface in the surrounding environment. Even greater is the main deliverer of this vengeance, as Django's journey is comprised of a delirious sense of Exploitation experience. He begins as a slave and ends as a wise-cracking, mythical Superhero, wandering off with his girl and a horse while the remains of the Old South simmer down to ashes.
Fuck yeah Tarantino. Thank you for this.
My hottest take is that Christoph Waltz is better in this than in Inglourious Basterds. Don’t @ me I’m beyond saving.
Just like with Tarantino's prior flick, Django Unchained is another sharp-witted and profoundly high-octane revisionist revenge tale that skillfully displays the intertwisted horrors of slavery of which that occurred during this specified period of time set in the United States' pre-Civil War Deep South.
It furthermore plays out in an ingenious way that it could on top of that, be a palatable experience for all with the added touch of stylistic direction from the vital director himself, as it amply shows the titular role of Django Freeman go on his route to freedom against everyone including rescuing his wife from a merciless Mississippi plantation owner, and eventually get his vengeance towards those who regarded him unfairly as a person in…
I enjoyed this a lot more than I did the first time. It's not in my top 3 Tarantino films, but it certainly is a great one.
Dr King Shultz is the yee to my haw.
Also Walton Goggins is always quality.
Now my second favourite movie, granted that can definitely change but man is it good
“The ‘D’ is silent.”
Django Unchained, Tarantino’s 7th film, is an audacious, anachronistic, stylised, revisionist Western that barrels towards satisfying revenge on the quick-shooting shoulders of Django Freeman (Jamie Foxx) and his eloquent German friend Dr. King Shultz (Christoph Waltz). Tarantino writes entertaining scene after entertaining scene – my favourites include Dr. Shultz’s bouncing tooth carriage arrival in the night, the shooting of Sheriff Bill Sharp, Django’s flair for fashion, the predicament of the eyeholes for the bag-wearing Klansmen, Hildi dropping the glass of water in astonishment, and the satisfying final farewell to Chateau Candie. Leo DiCaprio folds his entitled rich-kid star qualities into a bloodthirsty bad-teethed white-supremacist, making the loathsome ‘Monsieur’ Calvin Candie one of his best turns, and…
This still holds up very well, but I still think I slightly like Once Upon a Time In Hollywood more. That shootout scene is one of the best directed action scenes, still somehow, the best scene Tarantino has done.
