If you ever thought the "adventures of a lovable pooch" genre needed more horrifically gory deaths, rapes and high-ranking political intrigue, you've come to the right place. Yamane basically hyperlinks staples of disreputable pop entertainment – gunfights, explosions, double suicides, incest, assorted vehicular mayhem (feat. a motocross army and a Bunta Sugawara cameo as a baddass lorry driver) – into something you might call benji violence if it weren't so goddamn affable. Some absolutely batshit things happen – e.g. a sadistic yakuza killer forcing the dog's mistress at swordpoint to crawl on the ground so it'll smell like her while his henchman cut up and spread her clothes as a lure –, but the breezy episodic pace, easy listening score…
