2020 ‘Voces’ Directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández

There’s many elements at play here that are right up my alley... I loved the opening, solid performances, all around ambience, and unexpected brutality of the kills which took me off guard—didn’t see that coming. Unfortunately this gets a bit soggy in the middle, but that killer ending (which also came as a surprise) saved it for me. Sure... one might say it’s formulaic, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for that spooky 2010’s formula.
Decent little movie that I wouldn’t be opposed to revisiting again one day.
Voces doesn't dive much deeper than most supernatural horror films, providing a rather standard plot, with it's usual horror tropes and clichés all finding their way within a still very solid watch.
With a few well crafted scares, a haunting visual style, an absolutely ruthless demon and a nerve-wrecking climax that was worth the wait it's a tension-filled scarefest, although the characters could have used more depth and personality. Its horrors are mostly effective, its narrative and storytelling lead to mixed and sometimes less effective results.
Voces is a very by the books supernatural horror that benefits from a fast paced approach, capable actors and a few convincing twists, spooking it's way through a hundred of entertaining minutes.

Daniel and Sara have a 9-year-old son, Eric, and they've just moved to a new home not knowing the neighbours call it "the house of the voices". Eric is the first one to notice the odd noises behind each door. This film starts out like any other child-led Horror film, and it started to become worrisome after about 20 minutes. How many films have we seen revolving around a young kid who sees ghosts, hears noises, or straight-up becomes possessed? We could name five or six from the previous two years alone, and this story was not interesting enough at first. After a graphic and well-done opening, the next few scenes point…
i really said ‘who tf is farting like that’ because this shit was boring asf and i wasn’t paying attention and it was the phone vibrating. bye-
First 10 mins were great and set up what I thought was gonna be a wild ride...that first kill was surprisingly brutal. The makeup effects and the camera lingering on the bloody result was promising.
After that gnarly opening things meandered for a bit too long as the husband and wife argued constantly over their young son's disappearance.
Things picked back up when a father/daughter team of paranormal investigators entered the picture. Sadly it didn't last long as we got a few brief glimpses of The Conjuring-esque creature effects and predictable jumpscares. Ending was meh.
Just another netflix horror dump...

Hooked by the trailer and the ambiance of the film, Don’t Listen disappoints with typical horror tropes and cliches without any new approaches. The characters and plot are very predictable and dragging at times. Expecting more twists or scare, but the screenplay doesn’t deliver any surprises.
Although the witch element of the film is interesting, it doesn't offer any resolution or reconciliation to help the accused. The characters fall into a trap of blaming and killing women for political agendas.
Don’t Listen ends up being Don’t Watch, or Watch for Passing Time.
Netflix has dropped so many garbage horror movies on me lately, it came as a pleasant surprise when Don't Listen (horrible name) was not that bad.
While there is nothing really new or original, it goes where many mainstream horror movies refuse to go, Hereditary being the exception. And just like Hereditary, there is a WTF moment about 20 minutes in which screams "don't assume anything" for the rest of the movie.
Enjoy.
Like a lot of modern haunting films, when it comes to the backstory of why the haunting is occurring, I’m into it. Like A Haunting in Connecticut, this is where I’m most drawn narratively. The character drama is serviceable, doing what it needs to and, in this case, even having a nice little twist in the end. However, like a lot of modern haunting films, it’s packed to the brim with shrieking jump scares. Characters are forced to do things that no one in their right mind would do in order to create jump scare moments. Other times, the movie just flings one at you like Rip Torn throwing a wrench at Justin Long in Dodgeball. It’s not what you…
There's a new house, voices that speak to the kid and predictions in the form of drawings. Not really new.
However, Voces offers an enjoyable aura in typical iberian fashion. The deaths and injuries are "pleasing", being brutal in contrast to said aura.
At the middle, the film gets a little bit... ehn. However, you WANT to wait until the end on this one.
kinda loses its footing the last third of the movie to cliche jump scares and revelations but picks it right back up in the last few minutes
i really liked how this played out! dark ass horror films with a great plot but cheesy jumpscares are my kryptonite
Why isn’t anyone talking about this film? With mediocre reviews and ratings, I hesitated watching this thinking it would be another “just okay” to bad paranormal film with a script that fails in the end. As is the case, going in to a film with low expectations(like I had) and it turning out to be really strong just made the experience that much more enjoyable.
