A modern day FRANKENSTEINesque flick by director Tim Burton featuring one of my favorite actors Johnny Depp! Normally I can't stomach romance films but when you season it with a smidgeon of goth here and a pinch of fantasy there and a dash of sci-fi horror there it's a lot easier to swallow!
A real visual feast for the eyes! Breast milk for the melancholy!

Feeling highly emotional while talking to my slowly deteriorating in health father about about my cinematic hero Vincent Price, the greatest genre actor moving pictures has ever known, so I decided to watch the very first movie I saw him in that my dad took me to see in theaters when he was 44 and I was 5—I don’t think an actor had a better farewell exit than than Mr. Price... and it’s big energy when the first performance you see of your favorite actor makes you cry a thousand tears then and now... or maybe I’m just substituting?

Tim Burton is at his most creative and his fantasy is at its most pleasant here, a nice and poetically glorious film with an innocent character whose only wish in life is to be loved and accepted as a member of the society. I find that Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands falters in the middle section if only to recognize the frailty of the titular character. If the concept seems limited, and the humor and tragedy is a variation on his uniqueness, it is in hindsight a tactic to raise Edward to a status of fairy-tale creation, much like Vincent Price's role of The Inventor. In order for Edward to be a fleshed-out, fully-formed character, the audience must be confronted with how little he understands about the world, its harshness, and the judgments of others. A flawed "classic" whose screenplay needed some trimming (gotta love the irony)...
"Edward Scissorhands" is, if anything, the proof that even a flawed film can be a classic. The timing helped a little: it came out in 1990 when Johnny Depp was still the hearthrob from "21 Jump Street" and starring in a make-up-prop-and-weird-look role was a novelty (hard to believe that these times ever existed), and it was a time where suburbs were still the darlings of comedies driven by social comment attempts and when fantasy wasn't that blockbuster provider relying on CGI and it's to Tim Burton's credit to propose a little parable about human difference acceptance without overplaying special effects.

Finally got around to watching! I’ve seen a lot of people describe Edward Scissorhands as a “gothic fairytale” and that’s just the perfect way to describe the film. Everything from the story, the characters, the music and the set design make the film feel so immersive and really throw you into their world. I actually love the soundtrack so much and i have had a few of the songs saved without having seen the film so it was great to see them in action. This film is visually impeccable, though I may have a bias towards extremely colorful and meticulous sets but it was truly spectacular to look at.
The scene of Winona Ryder dancing in the ice keeps replaying in my head.
