    Adaptation of Dostoyevsky, extracting from his lesser novel The Gambler all the elements that are suitable for mid-range mass-market melodrama. I'm doubting that a crusty/lovable grandma in a wheelchair was a major element of the original text. Ending gets a bit swirly and excess-ive in a good way, but most of the movie was made without that sort of stylistic flourish.
