I absolutely love 80s slashers but I absolutely get horny for the obscure 80s slashers. So many of them exist but tracking them down can be a dang archeological expedition. And some time in the mid 2000s Evil Laugh appeared on my radar and I bought the shit out of that sexy ass cheapo DVD.
When it arrived it looked like a sketchy bootleg but it played just fine! Didn't look great but did the job! And spoiler alert watching Evil Laugh at 3am is the fountain of youth! You get younger just by watching this piece of glorious trash! Bringo!
Evil Laugh is an ultra low budget kinky quirky slashser with a killer that actually provides AN EVIL LAUGH!…
"Evil Laugh" is a conventional slasher released in 1986 directed by Dominick Brascia. The same routine-based build of an unknown assailant that terrorizes a grouping of young adults. In this case it's a group of medical students who are involved in a fixer-upper project. As the killer takes their victims one by one, it comes with the build of a maniacal laugh, which becomes our onscreen calling card featured in the film time and time again. What works best in this film is that it is increasingly self-aware of the presentation that it is bringing to the table. "Evil Laugh" know the genre it's a part of, and so it just goes for the sex and violence with full intention…
Absolutely delicious slice of 80’s cheese! I love how early on there’s a scene with the movie nerd reading a copy of Fangoria with Friday the 13th part V on the cover which the director of this stars in because that pretty much sets the tone for this schlockfest!
You’ve got Ashlyn Gere in a non-porn performance and she’s honestly pretty great…at horror and porn so does that make her a perfect person? Maybe! There’s also plenty of barely clothed men running around and really what more can you ask for? Except maybe a death by microwave where the killer lays a guy on the floor with his head in the microwave and the guy even says “hey that’s not…
While Evil Laugh is a fairly routine slasher with a couple of good kills, what makes it an interesting watch is it’s meta elements and killer design both bare a strong resemblance to what Craven did more successfully 20 years on with Scream.
Also, what kind of savages store whipped cream in a pantry?! Those kids had it coming for that alone…
My copy of this had CD Rom features and therefore could not be played on my dvd/vcr combo but it played fine on my laptop.
I was gonna say Evil Laugh explained horror movie rules to us via a horror movie obsessed (video employee? or just wearing a misleading red polo and reading Fangoria) rant while Matthew Lillard was still in diapers only to realize Evil Laugh actually did that while Mattew Lillard was an actual sixteen year old and not a twenty six year old playing a sixteen year old.
Evil Laugh isn't by any means a horror masterpiece but it is pretty damn fun. Lots of gore, nudity, and creative kills to keep you entertained including the much-talked-about microwave scene with Scott Baia's brother getting his head baked. So dumb but hilarious, i had a lot of fun with this one.
Another thing of note is the final girl Kim McKamy went on to star in 120 porn films (or so I'm told).
A disposable 80's slasher that is packed with ripped shirtless men telling each other how much they love women.
Needed more evil laughing.
I love an 80s slasher that's horny as hell!
This one has been on my watchlist for a while after seeing the trailer on The AGFA Horror Trailer Show. I had a feeling Vinegar Syndrome would get around to releasing it at some point. It was worth the wait.
Directed by Dominick Brascia, best known for his role as Joey, the chocolate bar loving victim in Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, Evil Laugh may be the first self aware slasher, predating both Scream and There's Nothing Out There. Here we get a group of college students who have gone to a house where, unbeknownst to them, a mass murder happened years ago in what was formerly an…
It's an extra cheesy 80s slasher with cornball characters, oddball humor, and goofy looking kills. The silly misconstrued chest rubbing sequence, the corny microwave kill, and the hilariously overdramatic cheese infused ending sequence were the highlights for me. Recommended for fellow lovers of 80s slasher trash!!
I remember watching Evil Laugh a while ago, probably around 2013 or so. I still have the VHS, and the DVD to this day! I woke up ridiculously early this morning, though it's now 11:00 where I'm at. And the first thing I did after I got the chance to wake up was pop this into my DVD player because I've been anticipating revisiting this gem for a while now! The last time I watched it was during quarantine. But enough of the unnecessary details.
Evil Laugh is the 80s slasher we needed but didn't deserve! Criminally underrated for sure! It's exactly what the front of the DVD I purchased a while back says! "Friday the 13th meets The Big…
