To this day, I do not fully understand how I get so little pleasure out of a movie where a car fights a tank, Luke Evans talks with absolute sincerity about his code of honor in a series of handsome distressed jackets, and Vin Diesel spends 35% of his scenes with his arms crossed so his muscles remain flexed and big at all times. It should not be scientifically possible for me to give this motion picture less than 12 stars. And yet here we are.

While most franchises lose their steam with each succeeding sequel, the Fast and the Furious franchise is that rare exception where its later films breathe in new life into the series. Once a franchise about car racing, "Fast Five" took an unexpected turn as a bank heist thriller in the vein of Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's 11," a welcomed change as seen by its huge box office earnings and critical success. Now, "Furious 6" is neither about car racing nor bank heists, but rather a terrorist threat with…
me: haha I love when the cars go fast!
this movie: what if there was a f ucking TANK
me: WHAT
this movie: LOL THE TANK IS GONNA DRIVE STRAIGHT OUT OF A TRUCK
me: how are they gonna stop a tank with jeeps and motorcycles
this movie: don’t ask FUCKING questions
me: sorry 😳
this movie: all you need to take down a tank is vin diesel’s sheer force of will
me: oh yeah that makes sense. well that was an awesome climax to this film
this movie: BITCH WE ARE NOT DONE HERE
me: WHAT
this movie: NOW THEYRE ON A PLANE
me: WHY
this movie: DONT ASK QUESTIONS
me: did someone just die?? i can’t tell what’s going on
this movie: YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
me: THE PLANE IS ON FIRE
this movie: YOU THINK FIRE CAN KILL VIN DIESEL???
me: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I thought I preferred Fast Five, but while Justin Lin's deep-dive into the 'Ocean's Eleven'/'superhero'/Crime-caper mixtape genre is definitely successful (I mean, how could it not be? They tow a fucking BANK safe through downtown Rio.), it is outmatched by the Telemundo soul and the surreal escapades of the set-pieces in Fast and Furious 6. This entry has it all: cars *specifically designed* to flip other cars, The Vin Diesel Brood face, Paul Walker getting angry, Tyrese Gibson being surprised at the chaos around him, Gal Gadot, Michelle Rodriguez, and Gina Carano never lowering their bravado below the level of 'complete-unadulterated-badass', never-ending establishing shots, a gigantic tank which has the power to run over other cars like they're potato…
Who would have thought that a series this old which started off okay would actually be better in its latest two installments? Certainly not I. And yet there I was in 2011, being surprised at how legitimately fun the whole thing was in how insane it had managed to become. Approaching the sixth film wasn't going to be the same. I had expectations now. Expectations of having a damn good time.
This one doesn't disappoint.
It's been amazing to see Justin Lin evolve with this series, because the action here manages to be bigger and better, and Lin actually brings some cool stuff to these awesome set pieces. Seriously, this film is swimming in great set pieces.
You know the…
FASTERERER AND FURIOUSERER SIXERER!!
STARRING PAUL WALKERER, VIN DIESELERER AND DWAYNE JOHNSONERER!!
Sorry about that......
Does what it says on the tin. Only the tin is a lot bigger and a lot emptier than the last time round. Still fun though, it's just all a bit stupidererer.
Check your brain at the door as you won’t need it for the next two hours. Fast Five was a genuine surprise back in 2011 as it ditched the repetitive street racing of the previous films to deliver a frenetic heist movie full of wit and invention. Furious 6 abandons the dumb Day-Glo delights of its predecessor for a darker, although no less retarded, story that gets bogged down in the bland and convoluted mythology of the franchise.
This time around the Toretto crew have relocated to Europe and become the hunter in this cat and mouse actioner. Now working with Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) they are on the trail of a deadly road crew who need to collect one final…
me every 10 seconds while watching this movie: i would die for you brian o'conner
The most disappointing part is also the most emblematic: The Rock NEVER sweats in this movie. He fights and drives and grunts and scowls, but he never sweats -- a stark contrast to the last movie where he never DIDN'T sweat.
And that's really this FAST & FURIOUS in a nutshell: it looks good, but it rarely recaptures the feverish, manic insanity of the last one, which was pretty much *all* feverish, manic insanity. There are a couple good sequences and Luke Evans is maybe the best villain the series has ever had, but it might also be both the stupidest AND the most complex FAST & FURIOUS yet. It's also got WAY too many nighttime car chases, including the one you…
"Look I don't know why you're here, but I think you're over your head" -Letty talking to me,

Vin and the Rock should just angry fuck and get it over with.
The government is so impressed with the criminal team that they just hire them to fight terrorists now and it's fucking brilliant... do you hear me I said BRILLIANT? The action is fiercer, the drama is insaner, and the cars are even gooder than ever. I have grinned this much since I was a child. This is the best one so far.
9 Quick Thoughts:
(1) How does Ludacris know so much stuff? He just knows whatever the fuck he has to know.…
i would accept a LETHAL WEAPON remake with Sung Kang and Gina Carano (she plays Riggs).
I wanna learn about Hobbs's other "usual wannabe warriors."

I have a podcast where a friend and I watch the Fast and the Furious movies on repeat, forever. You can listen to it here. Our current lap's pit stops center around Tokyo Drift: its actors' other movies, Justin Lin's other movies, movies by Asian directors, movies with Asian leads, and movies set in Asia.
Having to follow the fifth installment was difficult. With that said you know what you will get with this movie. A big action scene, lots and lots of cars. The movie doesn't buck the trend and continues to do what it do. It is a popcorn film and doesn't try to change that.
Paul Walker was literally the only shit I gave about the franchise. Overall:2/10
This movie utilised wire work for an interrogation scene in a tiny ass room just to sell Rock's superstrength (also everyone is a superhero in this franchise now). If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is.
What made Fast Five the best film of the series so far was that it was pure fun. No 6 loses the cool of no 5 and goes back to taking itself too serious. The mid section, with no action, feels like an hour. Why does this movie even feature dialogue?Gimme heists and set pieces. That is not the only problem, though. Even the more action and suspense centered pieces lack quality. The plot has a lot of twists and turns, yet fails to be surprising. There is an over reliance on fist fights. Did we need a zillion of them? Probably not. The final, potentially awesome plane sequence feels to scattered. Too many people are involved to make it successful.…
I think we could cut Gina Carano entirely from this film and nothing of value would be lost. It might even make the Rock more likable as a weird fed that whispers quippy one liners to himself before walking out of a room. Just an idea!
