This is like, some kind of weird, conservative fantasy. If watching this served any good purpose, it's a possibly vital reminder that the Clinton era was not as progressive as many of us might like to remember - the latter half of the 20th century in America through the eyes of a reactionary, nearly 50 years of social tumult regarded as just a brief phase of unrest before everything returns to 'normal,' - the Vietnam War, Black Panthers, and social justice activists regarded as a big joke, Jenny's character is subtly demonised - every decision she makes is the 'wrong' one, she doesn't find happiness until she bends to Forrest's will - Forrest is always 'right' - even though he does nothing but observe.

Poor Jenny deserved better

I didn't realize why people hate this film until it clicked with me that this is what Boomers honestly believe about their lives and history. No alternative outcomes, no possible way that things could have been better. Just a complete surrender to cynicism. Of course it won Oscars.

It's no wonder this film completely swept the Oscars back in the mid-'90s as Forrest Gump is without a doubt one of cinema's finest offerings out there and a flawless masterpiece for sure.

Director Robert Zemeckis superbly crafts this film that naturally takes the viewer on a personal journey with the titular character 'Forrest Gump' through various decades of American history & his own day-to-day life, and it absolutely is an unquestionably captivating & admirably riveting ride from the first frame to the last.

Tom Hanks effortlessly portrays that particular role and certainly gives a performance of a lifetime with the supporting cast also aiding him throughout the film's lengthy runtime that never felt lackluster in the slightest.

Truly a genuine and timeless piece of work that hasn't lost its magical touch all these years later just like some of the rest of Zemeckis other films.

This is a Forrest Dump. Whoever gave this best picture in 94 should be arrested. Tom Hanks and Zemekis should too. This movie makes me feel sick. How does this have a 4.1 on letterboxd? I hate the world

eh bonitinho mas eh uma punhetagem americana tao cansativa que na metade eu ja nao aguentava mais. parece uma tour pelos maiores hits do pais em forma de filme e eu simplesmente nao me importo o suficiente com os estados unidos pra gostar disso

Forrest Gump is a story about a woman who is totally decimated by the world she is living in. She is molested as a child by her father. She is kicked out of colleg for trying to make ends meet through modeling. The 70's hit and she decides to become a nomad who spirals with drugs. She gets hit with HIV and passes away in her 30's. It's a tragic story of a good person who is never able to recover from her dad and catches every bad break.

So yeah...Gump is about Gump. And his story is touching and amusing and fun...but Jenny steals the spotlight.

As Jenny intertwines with Gump, the film asks the question, are they destined to be together or does life just keep bringing them together. Gump believes it's both. I agree.
