Synopsis
Young girls are cheated in rigged gambling games and then forced into prostitution to pay off their debts.
1936 Directed by Elmer Clifton
Young girls are cheated in rigged gambling games and then forced into prostitution to pay off their debts.
Well that was boring as all hell for an exploitation film.
The last 15 minutes start to get a little entertaining, when a oblivious country boy gets stabbed nearly to death and a nearby girl goes "Oh, how exciting!". It almost seems like a better film had been edited out at times.
I usually like these old exploitation films but this one was lifeless. Very little titillation to keep the viewer interested. I suspect that would have been the case 70-80 years ago as well.
Who would think a film filled with sex, gambling and drinking could would be soooo boring?! There people sure didn't know how to exploit the dirty business on screen! Highlight was the scenes involving the girl stripping. What was given the most detailed focus from the director and would be this exploitation films main selling point I guess.
Police raid a gambling house where they discover a dead man with a woman holding a gun over him. They take the woman in for questioning where they learn the gambling house was used to cheat women into losing all their money so that they'll have to join a prostitution ring. Early exploitation/"warning" film is actually fairly well-made but that leads to boredom instead of laughs ala REEFER MADNESS. Without that "so bad it's good" feeling this one falls flat on its face. At least it doesn't run too long and if you're a fan of this genre then you'll still want to check it out but this will always remain forgotten among countless gems like REEFER MANDESS, SEX MADNESS and MANIAC.
A woman is tricked into a life of sin and debauchery after visiting a gambling club.
Pretty tedious shock story about a married woman getting involved with the crooked world of gambling and drinking. There's a few outrageous stripping scenes from the main actress but because of the time period nothing is really shown for it to be too shocking. The bad guys here are cartoonish in the extreme and lack much character also. For 68 minutes it feels like 88.

Movie 11 in the 12-movie Taboo set of exploitation flicks from the 30's and 40's. Gamblers set up ladies to incur huge debts which they cannot pay back, resulting in the ladies working as escorts. Decent acting.
A woman is tricked into a life of sin and debauchery after visiting a gambling club.
The acting is uninspired, the story tedious, the plot meandering, and the stupid ending makes the whole experience feel completely pointless.
