It is the total and convincing immersion in a future world that makes this one of the strongest science fiction films I've ever seen.

That is a bold statement I know, but for me it is a fact, it just took me a while to realise it. See, the first time I saw it I was distracted by the meandering third act in which the plot drudgingly treads towards its excpected resolution.

How had it taken me so long to get around to watching this? I love sci fi and 97 was when I was really getting into film. How its taken over 20 years to get around to watching it I will never know.

This is a great sci-fi drama that borrows heavily from the noir and thriller genres. Carefully written, this treads a delicate path as we journey with Vincent, determined to get to space despite his health. Top 10 90's Sci-Fi

I love Gattaca more each time I see it. This is my third time through it and this time I realized it basically has the same strengths and weaknesses as Blade Runner, another sci-fi favorite of mine. The acting is wooden and the pacing is slow enough to put an insomniac to sleep. This was Andrew Niccol's first time directing, and while he still hasn't done much to prove himself as a director (In Time, The Host...) I think some of Gattaca's failures can be chalked up to inexperience. Personally I just don't care about them.

Very good sci-fi movie.

Life is unfair.. some pointless, and not important movies get high ratings while this one, which is really interesting, has a deep subject, good message, and is a movie you should definitely see if you’re interested in sci-fi, will be stuck at 3* just to rule in Nass' favor.

Joking aside, it’s very interesting, the idea is so cool, and I love that it’s written by Andrew Niccol, and not adapted from a novel or something.
The casting is really good (Jude Law is getting higher and higher in my esteem, while Ethan Hawke still surprises me), and there are a few attractive staging ideas.
