Whenever I think about getting back together with my ex, I watch this film. Works like a charm every time.
watching this with the david fincher commentary is so funny because he loves this movie so much but hates ben affleck so much more and 90% of it is because he wouldn't wear a fucking yankees cap
could use some more of ben affleck saying “my wife” in borat voice but other than that it’s pretty good
not to make every conceivable thing about brad pitt but i have not known one day of peace since i found out that he and reese witherspoon almost played nick and amy. that would be such a different movie and it wouldn’t have worked AT ALL yet .... i WANT IT!!! not even the whole thing — i’d be satisfied with just the screen tests.
but again, it wouldn’t have worked: ben affleck’s face is easier to villainize, and rosamund pike’s vulpine performance is flawless. i get it, i accept it, i support it. the ultimate reason why i have not known peace is this: the mental image of brad pitt reading Gone Girl (the script and/or the novel) and respecting it enough to seriously consider playing nick dunne is unbearably romantic. what was he thinking? how was he feeling? what have we done to each other? what will we do?
“you know me in your marrow”
still one of the most thrilling cinematic experiences in recent memory, the hype surrounding this when it came out truly echoed the movie itself and reverberated through everyone that saw it. i left that theater a different person. it’s hard to find something as sharply attuned to the airy and mysterious quality this gives off in it’s first half, amping up and building to a perfect mid-movie payoff. this is already going down in the books as a cult classic. there’s nothing else quite like gone girl
okay. now, THIS is cinema. this is writing. even though i have watched it months before, i am horrified still. i don’t know what i’m feeling or thinking. i love it
Amy Dunne is by far one of the most accurate depictions of a psychopath I’ve ever seen. Rosamund Pike is amazing.
Love this score. Perfect dark ominous tones that make you feel emerged in the film.
Hats off to Fincher for being able to keep the suspense for such a long run time which is incredibly hard for any film, but especially a mystery thriller as it so easy for the audience to get uninterested and at not one point in this I felt bored, I was apprehensive the whole time! I also like how Fincher is able to use popular cultural figures (By this I mean social media models, musicians ect.) such as Emily Ratajkowski who has a small role, but doesn't feel out of place and Justin Timberlake starring in The Social Network, because they could easily deliver bland tasteless performances but Fincher is able to get the most out of them for their roles. Very good film, but not quite perfect in my opinion.
Also shout out to Rosamund Pike repping the U.K. so well. Legendary actress but her best role will always be Johnny English!
Nic dunne fell in love with Amy just once. And that was the time when Amy said "I'm the cunt you married. The only time you liked yourself was when you were trying to be someone this cunt might like. I'm not a quitter, I'm that cunt. I killed for you; who else can say that? You think you'd be happy with a nice Midwestern girl? No way, baby! I'm it."
This truth hit me so good.
