Goodtime, Une nuit sous tension
A green Sprite bottle, given almost a mythical introduction in a frenetic monologue, slips out of the hand of a character and roles into a puddle of water. The camera, finally imparted from its intense close-ups to a God's eye long shot, lingers just for a second as it rolls into a puddle where it could be misconceived as trash. An object of everyday life that has been signified with narrative agency (A MacGuffin up there with the Arc of the Covenant) once again resembles its indexical reality. No neon lights or close-ups to enlarge its importance, just a piece of misplaced trash left by some dirtbag scum.
This movie is what happens when we observe the trash we avert our eyes to—what we're taught to ignore—and really look at what's inside.
"I got beat up. I'm the victim here."

"Cross the room if you've ever been blamed for something you didn't do."
Many months before the films North American release, I joked that Good Time looked like "a modern-day Phil Karlson picture" so I was doubly pleasantly surprised when I found that this film approximated that feeling. In his annual love-letter to Cannes, Mark Peranson called the film "a kind of Dionysian New York Gesamtkunstwerk....immersion without identification." Where Good Time might confuse is that the film is outside of its narrative, it is not asking us to identify with its character(s), yet it revels in capturing the leads (Robert Pattinson's) energy - but it's for this same reason I believe…
like a remake of ENTER THE VOID as directed by the ghost of Sidney Lumet. some questionable details and it doesn't sink under the skin quite like Heaven Knows What, but Robert Pattinson is truly next-level in this thing.
feel like i've said this before, but now it's *really* time to recognize him as one of the best actors of his generation. between him and Kristen Stewart, i'm willing to officially move TWILIGHT into the "win" column, so far as its cultural contributions are concerned.
wish i could think about this movie for longer than 3 seconds without getting good time by owl city feat. queen carly rae jepsen stuck in my head. seriously, i’ve been trying to write down ANYTHING i can think of but the line wha ohh a ohhh ohhhh it’s always a good time is just ... incessantly taunting me. i don’t even like this song. actually, i think i hate it. actually, i know i hate it. please consider renaming your movie, safdie brothers. i know it’s a little late, but how am i supposed to join in the Discourse when this dumb song is haunting my every thought?

CHAPTER 2: GOOD TIME (2017)
in that infamous robert pattinson reddit ama, he claims his favorite line he’s said on film is, “don’t be confused, it’s just gonna make it worse for me.” didn’t notice that line on first watch, but on rewatch its gravity was unmistakable, completely centering and solidifying Connie's egocentric perspective.
Connie Nikas is, to me, a 21st century Nicky Godelin from Elaine May’s Mikey & Nicky, especially considering the Safdies have cited that film as a major influence. he’s so cool, so arresting that you’re forced to do whatever he says, even if you don’t know why you’re doing it. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: hot people make…
owl city and carly rae jepsen's iconic 2012 BOP good time isn't in this movie, totally false advertising, 0/10
Loved it more the second time and found a lot of flaws the second time. I realized this was my gateway into “””challenging””” films my sophomore year of school, which sounds so lame, but is the truth! For that, I’m grateful this film exists for opening up my palette.
I don't even know what to say. I'm aware that I often resort to hyperbole but I truly don't think that a film has ever left me in such a state of anxiety-induced awe. I'm so fucking stressed and my arms and legs are shaking but I rarely have such a visceral reaction to films, even when I have a strong emotional reaction. A few things though: 1) Robert Pattinson gives the finest performance of Cannes '17 with no other performance that I've seen even coming close; 2) Oneohtrix Point Never's seemingly Sorcerer-inspired score is, ironically, probably my favorite electronic OST (and thus, my favorite OST, haha) since Tangerine Dream's '70s and '80s outputs; 3) the Safdie brothers' utilization of…
I am stressed. What a chaotic ride. Robert Pattinson nails this role. The safdie bros know how to take a bad situation and keep making it worse.
Some interesting side characters but nobody gets too interesting because you spend so much time with Connie. Wouldn’t recommend this movie if you’re trying to unwind for the night.
It’s a good time (say New York accent)
Good time tells the tale of Connie and his mentally disabled brother nick. Who then rob a bank until something goes wrong, getting nick stuck in jail.
So this story is about the crazy downward spiral of Connie (Robert Pattinson) doing whatever it takes to get his disabled brother out.
This movie is greatly lead by Robert Pattinson who gives a career performance of Connie someone who’s actions affect others who get wrapped up with him. Connie is deceiving but likeable because he’s just driven to get his brother out of jail. Because he loves him.
Visually the movie has a high contrast showcasing the disgusting but somewhat pretty street lights of…
There’s no beginning or end.
There’s a quick hint of exposition, followed by a long (perhaps overlong) middle.... then a last scene.
I’ll check out uncut gems but I can not help but feel like the safdie brothers “rule breaking” on story telling doesn’t have the best returns.
Brilliant acting, editing, soundtrack, and cinematography. The lines even are pretty good.... just not the story arc.
This was a really good film. There was a lot of action and the music was super good and fit the movie really well. I don’t really know what else to say so yeah
Bom Comportamento (Good Time), o novo longa dos irmãos Benny e Josh Safdie, reza sob essa regra dourada.
Essa aproximação com o cinema de gênero mais popular - no caso, o suspense de perseguição - não deixa de ser uma evolução natural…
this film was freaking INCREDIBLE. I think the Safdie Bros are quickly becoming some of my fav directors.
Esta pelicula es una genialidad
todo el estilo que tiene la hace espectacular incluso para mi es mejor que uncut gems por el manejo de la historia y tambien su fotografia es genial, y lo mejor sin duda es la actuacion de pattinson
