This movie shouldn't work, but it does. Much like Miami Blues, there's a swiftness and cohesive logic that spirals out of its script, tumbling down through incident and humor and action but somehow still landing on its feet, often to the tune of a classic pop ballad and a cute romantic exchange. In the midst of Tarantino knockoffs, George Armitage takes a post-Pulp Fiction premise and fills it with a self-awareness of its own termination date. Like if Vincent Vega came back to check on old high school buddies, and not nearly as annoying as that sounds. Not to mention a stellar (and *very* 90s) ensemble cast. Minnie Driver and John Cusack are electric, and very hot.

A terrific blending of genres with perfect casting and a killer soundtrack that works as well as it does thanks to the rock solid tone and chemistry of the two leads. Though John Cusack’s hitman facing a crisis of conscious with a high school reunion as the backdrop is almost too good a premise to mess up. Thankfully Minnie Driver’s character gives focus to his arc and is just as charming, playing off his sarcastic persona in such a fun and romantic way. Simply, this is the kind of movie where I honestly could’ve watched its characters interact with each other for hours and not have gotten bored.

A love story that revolves around the world of a professional hit man. John Cusack is great in this and his performance is the glue that holds the film together. The rest of the cast is equally as good especially his sister Joan Cusack, Minnie Driver, Dan Aykroyd, Jeremy Piven, Hank Azaria, K. Todd Freeman, Mitchell Ryan and Alan Arkin as the poor psychiatrist.

It also features a cameo appearance by Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, who was John Cusack's Kickboxer instructor and that's how he got the part.

The film has a great soundtrack and the somewhat over the top violence seems to blend in well in this film.

This film also has appearances by Ann Cusack and Bill Cusack, their other siblings. The first film appearance by Jenna Elfman and last film appearance by Barbara Harris.

Feel like I would have loved this when I was 15. Brilliant cast, all underused. Lots of moments of genuine laughs, also a lot of clangers that don't work. Fun, but doesn't go anywhere and not satisfying.

The soundtrack is very good and also perfectly captures my teenage self's tastes (2nd wave ska, the best) but it's also almost intrusive on the film with many overbearing needle drops.

Firstly, what a soundtrack (huge shoutout to the legendary Joe Strummer). Up there with High Fidelity on that front. Grosse Pointe Blank has most of the same writing team as High Fidelity (John Cusack, D.V. DeVicentis, and Steve Pink) , and you can tell with the style of humour. 

John Cusack and Minnie Driver really get this film going and I enjoyed it, and their performances. I became an Alan Arkin fanboy after seeing him in Little Miss Sunshine and liked his parts in this. That reminds me, I need to rewatch Gattaca. 

Grosse Pointe Blank is quirky in its delivery with witty humour and good writing. It’s a fun story, one you can allow yourself to be simply swept along with and immerse yourself in Cusack and Driver’s attempts to rejuvenate a flower that’s been wilting for a decade.

An enjoyable Hitman romcom that is at several parts genuinely funny. The violence is over the top but always fun and never excessive and it gets pretty ridiculous how much of a bad shot everyone is during shootouts. It’s a turn your brain off and enjoy type of fun. Also a great soundtrack too.

Its easy to watch, with a good soundtrack and a great cast. What more do you need.

John Cusack carries the shit outta this movie. Dan Ackroyd felt pretty off his game like he just showed up for a quick paycheque (or was on a lot of drugs). There's a lot of really strong stuff throughout this film but it never fully came together for me, the ending is so spontaneous and fun and I couldn't help but wonder why the rest of the film lagged so hard in comparison. There's themes and ideas strewn throughout that feel only referenced and not actually explored.

joe strummer is much better at curating music that the clash is at writing it
