The plan: wake up, decide to be a man, buy a suit, transformation complete, go to a dance, try to steal a girl off a guy you hate, get drunk with him, kiss him on the carriage-ride home, kiss him again the next morning, transform back.
I Don't Want to be a Man still feels fresh and transgressive in the canon of gender-swap comedies: the leads fall for each other and act on it without a comforting reveal of Actual Heterosexuality; when this reveal does happen, Ossi's lover is shocked she would let him kiss her, rather than relieved at the return to sexual norms. 1918!
And you want to be a proper young lady?
I don't want that at all.
