This film is full of so many potentially incredible elements. I am here for Simon Pegg taking on serious roles from here on out. His character eventually showcases his emotional range, but we start out with a very subdued Pegg, and that is a refreshing feeling. He’s normally an enthusiastic actor, which I love, but unexpected changes are nice. This is his second time teaming up with Vaughn Stein. I haven’t seen much of Stein’s work, but I thought this film was sloppy from top to bottom. Many will make comparisons to Parasite, and it makes sense to a degree, but Inheritance turns into something entirely different. A patriarch of a wealthy…
There are three good things about Inheritance:
- the poster, in all its plagiarising glory
- it provides a quick answer to "what is Simon Pegg's worst performance?"
- oh wait, there's only two.
Lily Collins serving a well done steak when the dude specifically requests for rare is a powermove.
Simon Pegg maybe you should work with Edgar Wright again, because you’re too talented for this. What a boring, predictable, and uninteresting movie. Everything about it is so bland that every scene is just meddling together in my mind. I’ve already forgotten this movie.
I love Lily Collins, I could literally watch her just taking a dump and I would still be like “wow that’s art” but girl this clusterfuck piece of a movie was not a good choice, I understand you need to pay the rent but please.
Does any girl really knows her father?
Now that I think of it, Inheritance feels like the cinematic version of an occurrence where you'd read one of those pulpy mystery novels in the far back of an airport and on a stormy night, while awaiting for your next flight that'll not come until 10+ hours later. It has an chillingly ominous vibe that sucks you in quite violently as you read it but only because you don't have anything better to do than buying some burgers and sleeping like a person who has consistent electric shocks stick up his nerves every 5 seconds. So I'm going to state this early on: I like the experience of watching this movie and…
“Your father left this for you. And you alone.”
a cool premise executed in every family thriller trope they could come up with. kind of like a made for tv movie with a bigger budget. it’s plagued by muddled storytelling that lets the tension deflate as soon as the initial mystery is revealed and an almost laughably patched together final act. truly a strong cast wasted on a project that seems like it got filmed a decade ago and was then shelved until now. Simon Pegg apparently spent six months getting fit for this and you barely get to see the results... i feel bad. wonder what he thought he was signing up for tbh.
Watched because Chace Crawford was on the cast list.
Lily Collins meets Simon Pegg. If you don't guess the twist immediately then I guess you'll find more enjoyment in this than I did. Otherwise, here is a lesson in how building tension should not mean moving at the slowest dullest pace possible. Painfully boring.
Lily Collins gets 1 star. Another half a star for her outfits, hair and makeup. Everything else is pretty horrid though. Hectic opening. Ghastly editing. Hokey direction. The music, sheesh the music was in every scene, it seemed like it played literally the entire runtime. Not surprising though when I see the same director also directed Terminal.
I will say that the 2nd half of the film is superior to the first half. The conclusion ain’t bad but not good enough to forgive how lacklustre everything that came before it was.
The Inheritance has an interesting concept that could have developed a chilling thriller, but everything just didn't make sense. It's such a drag for any mystery to uncover, and it feels so slow and boring to stay focused.

Lily Collins plays a self-made, independent, and intelligent lawyer until the movie starts and then she isn't any of those things.
Honestly, it had so much potential. The story was quite alluring in the beginning but it still fell down the cliche rabbithole. Simon Pegg and Lily Collins did a good performance. But as the story progresses, umm.. You can guess the ending.
Saw it for Lily Collins so I did not regret 1 hr and 51 mins. Maybe.
I seriously don’t care enough to give this one a full review because it’s pretty much your typical bad thriller. Except with Lily Collins and Simon Pegg, it’s predictable, poorly paced, the music is garbage and the sound for whatever reason doesn’t sound right. Terrible movie.
1/10 F

I like Simon Pegg!
Man that's a whole lot of wheel spinning just to get to 'the big reveal' which is ultimately lame and resolved suddenly. Eh. It's a big drab mess and I'm not sure I liked any of the performances and that includes Pegg.
why do i watch movies i know are going to be like bad bad?
worst faux-edgy opening of all time? 🤔
