How can you understand tender feelings if you’ve never been given them? Method and rigour can only get you so far when you’ve never been graced the tiny, fleeting pleasure of a soft, thick stack of pancakes, or a birthday present wrapped unbelievably carefully, or a strong, tight hug for no reason other than to show that, yes, that love is always there.
Watched this with my mum and her immediate praise for all of it, the second the credits rolled, solidified everything I had been hopeful for throughout. Very smart, very smart, very special. And so, so tender.
