watching this as a kid: me likey cat :)
watching this as an adult: me likey phil hartman cat :) also i have clinical depression
Lmfao Kiki is the most relatable character in film history.
Maybe not the most imaginative Ghibli movie I’ve seen but certainly the cutest and most charming. I loved the colors so much, those blues were BLUE.
The stakes are hilariously low in this film but LOOK AT THE CAT HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THAT?
Kiki is navigating a major depressive episode; it is important that everyone in this town be nice to Kiki and her cat.
how can i decide with whom i relate to the most in this movie... the young witch who talks to her black cat and always wears black, the black cat who is always a mood or the girl who lives in the woods by herself and draws birds
Hayao Miyazaki's 1989 classic Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of the most charming, child friendly Ghibli productions I've seen thus far. The film tells the story of a young witch, Kiki, who moves to a new town and uses her flying ability to earn a living.
Kiki’s Delivery Service was a film that took me by complete surprise. The previews never gripped me and the premise seemed uninteresting...yet I couldn't have been more wrong. It's that simple presence that gave the film an unforgettable charm as, despite being slow paced and light-on-conflict, it's difficult not to be won over by the film's endearing characters and beautiful animation, as well as a storyline that stresses the values of independence and friendship.…
Studio Ghibli has an arsenal of laughs for their characters and every single one of them is the best laugh. The film is a gentle breeze on a cool day, extremely relaxing to watch and feel, like putting your brain on a rocking chair, or in a glass jar floating on a stream of water travelling to nowhere, carried by the tender flow of a heartwarming, friendly little story -- which is just about a newbie witch who's trying her best: a reminder that you should try your best too! Hang in there! The moment for you to finally shine is just around the corner!
I’ve seen this movie so many times and I’ve always loved it but this is the first time it ever made me cry. Maybe this says something about me? Not sure. Great movie tho.
We spent the entire movie trying to figure out where this city is and then at the end somebody waves a flag for THE STATE OF ALABAMA which -let me tell you- came as a bit of a surprise to us.
Like a parable for young girls finding their way in the world with the help of great, diverse, women as a support group.
One of the best films about women
A cute and lighthearted story that may not be as dramatic as other Hayao Miyazaki films but still provides a that consistent magical feel to a studio ghilbi movie.
Oh, the humanity and all the passengers screaming around here. I told you, I can't even talk to people whose friends are on there. Ah! It's–it's–it's–it's ... o–ohhh! I–I can't talk, ladies and gentlemen. WHAT’S THIS! A LITTLE DIAPER WEARING WITCH?! WE’RE SAVED BYGOLLY, WE’RE SAVED!
A great director makes a fun, low-stakes drama (though none of the characters seem to know that’s what it is). Visually, this film is rarely breathtaking, but still beautiful because that’s what Ghibli does. I like the story, but most of my problems are in the screenplay— the dialogue isn’t very good and there’s some weird pacing. In spite of that and in spite of my negative review of Mononoke weakening the law, this still obeys the principle “Miyazaki good”
Also, today is one year since the first movie I logged on Letterboxd and that is pretty cool. 156 logged since then.
Plot:

Analysis:
During his amazing careear Hayao Miyazaki has given us many amazing animated films that are suitable for both kids and adults. Kiki's Delivery Service although it is more of a kids movie it keeps the theme of Ghibli Movies and it's a very good experience for grown-ups too. Compared to many other movies of the same studio, this one is probably less impressive for older ones but it still has this cute and unresistable feeling that all the others have, so it's probably another great option design by the genius of…
Spirited Away and this are tied for my favorite Ghibli film. This makes me feel as cozy as most people when they watch My Neighbor Totoro. The music, the atmosphere and obviously Kiki herself make this into something very special.
Jiji gives me life in this.
