Black Comedies work for three reasons, firstly they evoke laughter by challenging your moral conscience by putting you in the situations where you're not supposed to laugh but you couldn't help it either, for this characters need to be grey and their choices questionable to challenge you morally and to make it tough for you to choose who to root for.

Secondly, quirky characters are needed for black Comedies-yes, given that they are not self aware, Audience should find their actions and mannerisms quirky and not the characters themselves. The moment the character becomes self aware of their quirk, then they aren't Intresting anymore they become caricatures.

Wie der eine oder andere bereits anhand meiner Reviews erkannt hat, bin ich alles andere als ein großer Freund von Komödien, Schmonzetten oder Feel Good Movies jeder Art. Warum, liegt wohl eher darin, dass ich mir lieber aus „Once upon a Time … in Hollywood“, in Werken wie „Herr der Ringe“ und dem Horrorgenre im Allgemeinen diese Gefühlslage ziehe. Die Ausnahmen wie „Meine teuflischen Nachbarn“, „Die wunderbare Welt des Walter Mitty“ oder „Ist das Leben nicht schön?“, sind rarer gesät wie Wasserpfützen in der Sahara. An ambitious Anthology, narrated through five different storylines & contrasting set of characters. Almost in a satirical manner, "Ludo" as a Dark Comedy; tellingly portrays realistic personalities we get to witness on a daily basis.

The format of 'Anthology' though delved into time to time by many creators before, it still remains as 'unpopular terrain', In a dire need of exposure. Thankfully Anurag Basu is there to help.

His expertise in filmmaking once again shines through. Anurag's Understanding of cinema has always been unexampled in taste. So is the case with his newest endeavor. Quite interesting to have Ludo as a smart metaphor as the whole satisfying nature that of a hyperlink narrative. Of all the kinds of endings in films, hyperlink narratives have a very loopy sort of ending where you see each character meeting in the end, and their stories getting intersected.
Of all Anurag Basu-isms in all his films, this is the one which he goes all guns blazing, it's as overblown as a Jagga Jasoos was, but on a smaller scale.

every small detail anyone with 3 braincells should notice is followed by *suspenseful and playful* music so that every 4 year old watching this notices, understands and comprehends this genius play of the medium of cinema as a whole by basu.
the film is inconsistent in every sense of the word, it isnt all bad but me getting into the nuances would just be wasting your time. There's no subtlety in this film and i mean that in the worst possible way. halfway through i thought "guys look here even this character says the f word" was all anurag basu conveyed with grace.

Don't let anyone tell you this is a bad film unless the criticism is elaborate and valid. Canceling out something is the easiest thing to do. Ask for reasons. Check for their validity. And only then agree or agree to disagree.

Ludo is a mess and that mess itself is the entire film. The best part of the experience is that the film's hyperlink does feel like a game of ludo with players intersecting, violating, and affecting each other at different turns. The color palette only complements the narrative and prevents it from looking shabby. The VFX fail at different points but they failed in Jagga Jasoos too and they fail in the majority of Indian films (even Bahubali).
