good movie because they made james caan say he was in the “misery business!” would’ve been a great movie if they made kathy bates do a choreographed dance with her pet pig and sing, “but god does it feel so good, ‘cause i got him where i want him nooooow. and if you could then you know you wooooould. 'cause god it just feels soooo... it just feels so good!” as james caan watches in horror. i know this came out 14 years before paramore was formed but that’s no excuse. time isn’t real
My mom's favorite movie.
This was very entertaining and definitely the movie I needed tonight. A simple plot on it's surface with a very detailed, interesting, and smart center. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something funny, terrifying, and just a fun time in general.
Oh also Kathy Bates went OFF.

Misery is the best book-to-screen adaptation of any of Stephen King's works. More than any other director, Rob Reiner knows intuitively how to translate King to a motion-picture format. Misery and Stand By Me are note-perfect, glowing from the inside with a warmth and and ease, frequently surpassing their source material by avoiding clunk or ham, brightening the tonal palette, and fully exploring the smaller territories of these tales with an eye for detail and a sense of pacing and rhythm which is effortless to follow and wholly organic in unspooling. I went in with high expectations and I was absolutely blown out of the water by their jaw dropping, earth shattering performances! Don't ya just love it when a film exceeds all of your expectations! This is has become my all time Favorite Stephen King film!
Kathy Bates deserved her Oscar for her role as Annie Wilkes, a psychopath whom takes stalking to new heights! Her portrayal was just a little too real for comfort! There is one particular scene that made me clench my teeth, if I bit down any harder they'd shatter!
James Caan was equally impressive in his role! The dynamic duo had a wonderful sick and twisted chemistry between them!
I saw this in the wee hours of the morning and my sphincter still hasn't unclenched!
If there is one thing King does like no other it is finding horror in the mundane. These stories are often my favourite and Misery certainly ranks among the best of them.
Misery is also a story that is easily transported to film because it is a very simple one and those are often very suitable for an adaptation. While it is easy to criticise this story's and subsequently the film's straightforward nature, I actually feel it is its strength.

Misery is an excellent thriller. There are only a few truly great film adaptations of Stephen King's books, Misery is one of them. It's one of those films that gets under your skin which is what a good psychological thriller should do. The pacing is perfect from beginning to end. You get just the right amount of suspense and action. The acting from James Caan and Kathy Bates is fantastic and they both help to get us sucked into every celebrity's worst nightmare. Overall, it's a riveting film that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I’ve seen this once a really long time ago so I knew the story beats going into it. although the direction is super boring and —hot take incoming—kathy bates’ performance is a little overhyped, james caan is incredible and the tension is soooo fucking palpable even though I knew what was going to happen. a very strong King adaptation to be sure

I loved this movie. Every hard to watch, emotionally draining minute of it. They don't even have to set up that much of the main character's past to make us sympathize with his plight. Great movie.

One of the better King adaptations, sure, but I'm just not a huge King fan. It's all quite obvious and there's nearly no tension to speak of. Bates is great but that alone isn't enough to make a great film.
