I don't know if I can do it. I'm 45 minutes in and just found out there's another hour and a half left. I'm going to take a break and regather.

Alright. Refreshed and back at it. Don't filmmakers realize that they aren't allowed to use "Where Is My Mind" anymore?

A half an hour of whispered dialog with the occasional English-child-voice-over explaining the butterfly effect to me is probably enough for now. I'm going to drink some beers and watch something good.
Film#55 of 'It's June Jim, but not as we know it'
Too ambitious for its own good with a very simple central theme hidden underneath a huge amount of unnecessary and pseudo-intellectual babble.
Basically what Mr. Nobody has to say is that life is governed by choice and is filled with endless possibilities. It is also a testament to love. These things could have provided for a fantastic and rich film. But this film's potential strength is buried under an avalanche of philosophical ideas, scientific theories and stylistic overkill, leaving a film only to be admired for its ambition, even though it is in the end an empty shell.
At two and half hours this is clearly the product of…
I think one of the best things that can happen to me as a film lover is discovery. The discovery and liking of a film that is rare, under seen, or one you've just flat out never heard of is an awesome feeling. Jaco Van Dormael's Mr. Nobody is such a film. I'd heard of it even placed it on my watchlist at one point or another, but I knew of it only by a passing glance months ago on rottentomatoes and a few reviews on this site. I didn't start hearing about it until last year although the release date in several places shows 2009. It seems Mr. Nobody is one of those films that was maybe shown at…
A single snowflake can bend the leaf of the bamboo
Honestly, I can see why this film went over so many people's heads when it was released. The story is so complex, and it honestly isn't for everyone. Most people will probably be off-put by the fact that it doesn't try too hard to explain things, but that's the beauty of it. Mr. Nobody probably requires some research after watching, but it is a beautiful examination of the effect of life choices, and how each choice has it's own path an consequences. Nemo Nobody's choice was to live either with his mom or his dad- one resulted in a pseudo-incestuous love affair with his beautiful step-sister, the other involved taking…
as soon as where is my mind by the pixies started playing my eyes rolled so far back in my head i was afraid i'd never get them back so i had to turn it off
Never had the line between dream and reality been this blurry.
Nemo Nobody. The boy who is 5 years old and 118 years old at the same time. The boy who can run faster than the train but needs a cane to walk between hospital rooms. The boy, who had lived many lives, who is both dead and alive.
The walking paradox.
The living contradiction.
Mr. Nobody.
The boy who doesn't know his past, but can remember the future. Three marriages in three separate churches, all involving the same man. When asked whether he stayed with his mother or his father after the divorce, he answered: "both". When asked who he truly loves he answered: "Anna" but his eyes were…
Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning.
After watching the movie I felt completely like the kid in the tracks I couldn’t decide if I should write a review or not, I usually don’t write even if I love what I just watched but something within me just wants to get out so here I am writing one to somehow show my interest in this and somehow entice others to watch it. I just want to say this is the type of movies I love, it’s weird, I could clearly see why this movie would somehow leave people with distaste for it throws both scientific theories and psychology…
The Butterfly Effect meets Interstellar, Memento, and Donnie Darko.
HOLY SHIT! I did not expect this to be perfect at all. The science and philosophy is so perplexed and mindblowing. I have never seen a movie that hauls for approximately 3 hours, screws your brain completely, causes you to consider about things you would've never considered something elsewhere—and all these, all throughout the whole movie.
The message of the movie itself is so powerful - while it might be subjective I recognized that; You should not worry so much that you end up not living your life. In action, is never the action to take, when facing adversity or a tough decision.
10 out of fucking 10!
30 Day Film Challenge Day Twenty-Two: The Most Underrated Movie.
After watching Jaco Van Dormael's romantic sci-fi film, I was stunned at how little attention this film has received. Sure, it's got a decent score of 7.9 on IMDb, but the Rotten Tomates score (64%) is criminally low, in my opinion. There just seems to be an absence of art house appreciation in today's mainstream audiences, where people would rather see huge fiery explosions and incoherent dialogue rather than a thoughtful, deep story such as the one presented in "Mr. Nobody."
The story seems simple, but at the same time it is not. There are several hints that tell us that all is not as it seems. Our hero, Nemo…
Ok, so this is a hard movie to review. Sometimes it's a hard movie to endure too, but I'll get to that in a moment. Since I have no idea how to even begin talking about Mr. Nobody, much less rating/reviewing it, I'm gonna ask myself a few questions about it and answer below. Maybe that'll help.
Q: Is it a bad movie?
A: I don't think so, no. It's too ambitious for it's own sake, yeah, but I wouldn't qualify that as bad. There's not a single bad performance (though that 15 year old Nemo got on my nerves after a while), and even Jared Leto, which I dislike, was actually kinda good in this. The problem is, for…
I'm going to gain a lot of enemies for this. Enemies who will try to point out that I "just didn't get the film" or "have a distaste for European cinema". First of all, I get what this film wants to do, and I see that many people like this film because it makes them think of the choices they take in their lives, and I respect that. I'm not writing this review to say you are wrong if you like Mr. Nobody, I'm writing it to express my opinion on it. Besides, I am European, so it has nothing to do with director Jaco van Dormael's nationality, and no, Europeans are not a hive mind of socialists/avantgardists when it…
The photography is splendid, arguably perfect. There are several scenes that are magnificent. The philosophy and theories in which the film revolves are very good, the only bad thing is that the second hour was quite tedious, and the best thing is that the last half hour was pure gold. Actually I had already seen movies with the same theme so personally it was not that surprising but it is a beautiful film and I am sure that if I had seen it years ago I would have been even more impressed.
I'm not afraid to die, I'm afraid I haven't lived enough.🥺💔
it is not difficult to understand the movie in the first watch but I think watching it for the second time is still so enjoyable.
This guy tried to explain life to me in 140 minutes (with an absurd direction by the way). I am a little confused, I will re-watch this movie 1000 times. Everyone will get a different message, for now I think "Each choice is equally right but we choose based on our personality, which however also depends on the choices we make. We are partly genetic and partly the environment that surrounds us, which forces us to make choices that will shape us" but there are too many other themes.
Ah and the next time they ask me "What movie would you show aliens" I'll say Mr. Nobody.
I watched this on a jeepney ride omw back to my dormitory after spending a weekend at home, and I remember crying sm to this film. I still don’t know if it was bc of my insatiable longing for my non-existent lover—similar to what Nemo had experienced—or if it was just my emotional ass realizing I would have to face the realities of my daily life as a struggling student once again. Either way, I still enjoyed it despite some scenes being a drag and a tad bit pretentious.
This movie is the result, when you try to do too much and end up getting nothing.
Pros:
Great Background sound
Cinematography
Performances especially Jared Leto
Karmic Concept
Cons:
Non linear narrative disconnects us from story and characters.
Explanation of the things hadn't been there
Half-Baked
Long Runtime feels like a Lifetime
No proper storytelling
“Drop it. In life, you get one take. If it's bad, you just deal with it.“
Sometimes it's better not to make a choice.Do not watch this movie once because you will probably understand different things every time you watch it.
Creo que Mr. Nobody me encantó tanto que no le entendí bien del todo jajaja XD
