Mercy
this wasn’t great but also i didn’t expect it to be. sometimes i just gotta watch one good movie kiss and i’ll be alright
I’ve been saying for a while that it’s time we have more movies with lesbian romances there are not only about the romance, and this is an example of what I mean. The film was more mature than I thought it would be based on the synopsis – it’s quiet and honest rather than overly dramatic. It might bother some people that the plot doesn’t go very deep into the debate it presents, but I didn’t mind that. Kate Mara and Ellen Page are great together, their scenes are really sweet to watch, good casting and even better chemistry.
glad to know this movie actually exists and it's not a collective hallucination
I never imagined Ellen Page playing the timid and vulnerable type opposite Kate Mara as the alpha female, but My Days of Mercy made it a reality; and it's something I never asked for but absolutely wanted.
An unlikely romance subtly unfolds between both women, while a more serious topic plays out in the background.
Personally, this is pretty much what I look for in a lesbian affair. But as the film attempted to cover two subjects in equal measure, it unfortunately fell short of giving each matter the depth they deserve.
The death penalty side of the story didn't pack much of a punch, and the two women's liaison left me longing for more.
It's refreshing to see Page…
they put 3 lesbian sex scenes in this film about the death penalty & that's what really matters
Lord help me, my heart had some ups and downs in this feature. This is the first film on here I'm giving a 3, but also a Like. As a film, it falls short at times, but the chemistry between Ellen Page and Kate Mara, and their performances... just incredible.
If you asked me why Ellen Page is one of my favorite actresses ever, I'd just pull up clips from this film. She plays shy, vulnerable, aching, hyper, compelling, loving, all under 2 hours. I wanted to reach out and hug her. I mean, give me the opportunity and I'd do it any day, but you know what I'm getting at. Exceptional performance.
Her on-screen relationship with Kate Mara goes…
Quite liked this. It's very uneventful and slow, so if you don't have the patience for that I'd say avoid, but the pacing and and film in general is very at peace with itself which stopped it from being a pain to sit through. This is quiet and contemplative in a way a lot of people will really enjoy.
It was interesting to have the two sides of the death penality debate in the central romance, it added a bit of a twist on it, but perhaps wasn't utilised fully. The film balances between the love story and the family legal battle when it may have benefitted from leaning on one side more heavily - but it's hard to say.…
lesbians can't ever have a normal love story, the death penalty always has to be involved somehow
it’s clear why i watched this and i got what i came for, it wasn’t good but it wasn’t bad
The plot for this movie is like walking in to the middle of a conversation and asking questions to find out what theyre talking about while everyone else is trying to move on.
Also,
I know Lucy and Mercy are professionals and all but you can't convince me they weren't actually fucking in that 2nd sex scene
Surprisingly deep and mature look at romance, the death penalty and family dynamics.
The ending drags a little (though is ultimately satisfying) and some threads aren’t expanded on as much as they could be. The plot is fairly predictable, but it is the presentation that makes this movie.
This is one of Elliot Page’s best performances. They show off a huge amount of vulnerability and openness in a very emotionally powerful performance. Kate Mara is also excellent as Mercy, and her chemistry with Page (her real life best friend) is what really makes the movie work so well. The film is not a complete dour and depressing spectacle, with most of it actually being quite feelgood and lighthearted until the…
Dialogue bad, chemistry good. The death penalty stuff felt uncomfortably surface level. Feels like they knew they wanted to make a movie about fucking in an RV and reverse engineered it from there.
Wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be a nice one!
I actually enjoyed the parallel plot about death penalty and how the story unfolds.
Just read helene's review on this topic and totally agreed with her.
