Nowhere - Eine Reise am Abgrund
the ~aesthetic~ of this movie is basically just WHAT IF TUMBLR WAS ACTUALLY COOL and i know that sounds lame but get this: it’s actually cool??
One day, people are gonna look back and be like "yooooooooo, we should have liked Gregg Araki so much more than we did!"
like a really fucked up dazed and confused, laced with constant bursts of acid induced adrenaline and nihilistic black humour, saw this twice in three days, one of the best films ever?
makes me think about a lot of people that want queer stories to follow more heteronormative plots so they can be easily consumed and capitalized off to the masses. and to that i say: i hope gregg araki fucking eats all of you.
FUCK this is so good I almost got a computer virus trying to watch but I feel like it’s the way Araki intended
This is just a movie about attractive people fucking while cool music plays and it's a masterpiece.
The production designer on this movie should be given a medal. Each new bedroom made my jaw drop a little bit further. Love the pansexual apocalypse.
it always comes back to this, then...one of the movies i'd call truly perfect. every impulse of a countercultural moment of absolute sexual fluidity swept up into araki's most outre sensibilities, a terrified, loving, dissatisfied, and ecstatic attempt to preserve the sense an era by acknowledging its imminent demise. certainly not utopian, for all its surface pleasures (and they are many). self-harm and self-obsession are coequal partners in the denial of the outside world (the windows of these characters' rooms are not windows: they offer the vistas of other worlds entirely than our own), whose impositions (more-or-less metaphorical) in the form of Roscoe the Alien, televangelism, and Jaason Simmons, signal apocalypse.
"it's armageddon day....have you ever heard of the rapture?"
"like the siouxsie and the banshees album?"
greatest movie ever. the only time im allowing the phrase “acid trip” is when referred to this film. literally every single element is queer coded in some way or another and i am grinning from ear to ear :)
Let the love feast begin.
Thank you to Boys for convincing me to make this my first exposure to the work of Gregg Araki. That being said, what the fuck? Utter bewilderment. I can't tell if what I watched was a film or a fever dream masquerading as a film. Nowhere is a full, wackjob embrace of "queer" as both a sexuality and a synonym for "weird." The names of the characters. (Greatest hits include Dark, Lucifer, Dingbat, and Handjob.) The dialogue. (Greatest hits include "How about you sit on my face and cut a nice, big, juicy fart?" and "Dogs eating people is cool.") The sets. (The main wall of our lead character's living space is a spray painting…
this takes place in a universe comprised of only himbos and bimbos. also what the fuck
gregg araki does this really cool thing where he makes films that absolutely cannot leave my mind once i watch them
A hazy, voyeuristic nightmare with a good soundtrack. Cinematography is great. Gay AF.
What the fuck am I watching ...You know how dazed and confused is weed film right.. well imwatching this film on acid and it’s fucking great I would say you guys should watch it too, I’ve got a blanket and a water bottle it’s so fucking good man
Making me feel pretty weird tho yeh I don’t really know about this film.... makes me feel weird
this is like video art mate. the sensual visuals carry it. nonsense but pleasing nonsense.
Waited a long, long time to finally watch this and it still managed to exceed my expectations
Very into the exaggerated characters. Fits go hard AF. Sets and props were a very interesting addition all the characters room reflect their personalities. I like the Godzilla type aliens and the ones that look like cockroaches very comicy. Uncomfortable in a good way. Abrupt ending had me like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa⁉️ XD
I am really high but fr good movie
