jamie bell im here to save you from ever interacting with lars von trier ever again but more importantly im here to ask for compensation for sitting through 2 hours of you whipping that woman. i liked seeing you in a gray crewneck but jesus christ dude
Nymphomaniac is a meta-film at heart, and an exposition of the way in which sexuality does not and never will fit comfortably into our artificially well-mannered and "moral" society.
Paying homage to Andrei Tarkovsky through his films (e.g. the Rublev painting in Vol. II, the chapter credit backdrop of the "Solaris reeds" in Vol. I, the chapter credit of "The Mirror," etc.) - as well as paying tribute to his own, previous cinematic escapades, particularly Antichrist - was to be expected, as we're all familiar with von Trier's admiration for the late Russian master (and himself, haha), but briefly paying homage to Jelinek's novel/Haneke's film, La Pianiste? That, I was not expecting.
Excuse my twisted mind, but the three-way scene…
volume 1 sweetie i'm SO sorry that you had to be followed up by this ,, men sure are trash huh we been knew !

OVERALL RATING: 2 / 5
I have a rule. A very simple rule. One that works perfectly on a very basic, instinctive level; if I watch a film and I am forced - and I stress the word forced - to swear at whatever is playing on the screen in front of me, then it's fair to say frustrated anger is not too far behind. If it is accompanied by any sort of aggressive hand gesture - typically the middle finger - my search for a time machine to claim back the time I have wasted becomes pretty intensive.
Going back a year or two ago to when the news of von Trier's next film…
I watched the director’s cut, which includes both volumes and has a runtime over 5 hours. The director’s cut made it clear when each volume ended but I still see “Nymphomaniac” as one long movie, which makes my reviews for both volumes very similar but I will still try to make them a bit different.

Joe: The human qualities can be expressed in one word: Hypocrisy. We elevate those who say "right" but mean "wrong" and mock those who say "wrong" but mean "right." By the way, I can assure you that women who claim that negros don't turn them on, they're lying.
This movie was an interesting exploration of sex and sexuality. Some…
Note: These are officially intended as one long film. However, I watched the directors cut of both halves, separately, so this review is only about Vol 2, although there is some inevitable overlap in my thoughts. Vol 1 review - here
The continuation of Joe's sexually dictated life delves into the darker aspects and complications of her adulthood and what led to her being in Seligman's care. Technically more true to its title than its predecessor, Vol 2 focuses less on the philosophical aspects and psychological justifications and delves deeper into the nymphomaniac's psyche, and on the immediate emotional devastation and depravity of her state of mind, and the effects of her decisions on her life overall. In Vol 1,…
Are you making fun of me?

It's like the old saying goes... when in doubt about being controversial enough, throw in a pedophile. Now oddly enough my problem with volume two isn't the fact that one of it's chapters features a pedophile, but the reason it contains a pedophile.
I'm writing about this particular scene because I find it encapsulates everything that I find wrong about this film. It involves a pedophile and it's big pay off is Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) proclaiming this gem: "The pedophile who manages to get through life with the shame of his desire, while never acting on it, deserves a bloody medal."
This gem is thrown out and to it's credit does it's job…
thinking about how shia labeouf got his role because he sent lars von trier his sex tape... that man is insane
I found myself pitying Joe at the first vol, in the second one i got bored and tired....
I’ve already dispensed a lot of my frustration on the Nymphomaniac Volumes in my brief review of the first Volume. I had finished the film after a frustrating two and a half hours although I was wrongfully under the impression that it was only two hours long. Volume two just so happens to be three hours long.
But, I retain many of the remarks that I made. Von Trier seemed to have been so full of himself and clearly made sure that nobody on the production opposed him so that he could make a five and a half hour film on something that could’ve been explored with higher competency in 100 minutes or less. Pacing is still awful, with these…
Holy fuck this is actually amazing. Idk what else to saw other then I was pleasantly surprised, and thought that everything worked really well together.
KINDA WISH HE DIDNT JUST TEASE US WITH THAT REFERENCE😤😤really great movie. will be rewatching Antichrist soon.
II was better then I
Painfully hard to watch. Joe’s life story is so grim and crude. It is like watching someone’s life go from bad to worse. We see Joe reach a new level of desperation, I’d say to the point where the character loses all relatability (assuming there was ever any to begin with). Despite this though, it is never hard to sympathize with her. It’s strange, Joe is so vulnerable and fragile yet she’s protected by this layer of stigma that repels anyone too afraid to dig any deeper. She’s left untouched by the outside world and in turn, becomes self destructive. But anyway, it just felt heavy. I wouldn’t watch it again.
60%🍿
Nymphomaniac: Vol. II is a solid enough continuation of the first film, but it's not even close to being as good as the first one. I enjoyed many of the same things in this film as I did in the previous one, but this one is also much more flawed.
Charlotte Gainsbourg does a phenomenal job as our protagonist. She's just a great actor and this character is perfect for her. Speaking of her character, I like that we get to know her better in this film. She's definitely a flawed person who does some very bad things, but she shows remorse for her actions and it's clear that she has a good heart. Stellan Skarsgård delivers another good…
★★★½ I really enjoyed it and this movie is more satisfying, better and catchier than movies with 3 stars.
This is the third movie of the director i’ve ever seen. After watching nearly two and half hours long Vol. 1 yesterday, it was a good idea to watch three hours long Vol. 2. So, this review will be mostly about this particular movie, but there will be some comparisons with the first one too.
As directing, i think movie is a good sequel to the first one. I liked the editing, cinematography, colours and there were -again- remarkable scenes. I liked the visual decision of the very end. Also, in this movie there were more scenes in the room, and…
All I have to say is: Fuck this entire movie. Boring, tasteless and just pure shit. Lars has made some bland boring movies in his time but this by far takes the cake. It continues none of the slightly interesting, artistic or meaningful parts from the first movie (what little there was) and completely ruins them as well as somewhat good performances by Willem Dafoe and Stellan Skarsgard. Also the age casting in this is fucking atrocious. There is hardly anything good about this, and the little good there is is just ground down by the utter atrociousness of the rest. Plus that ending undermines the entire point of the movie. Can’t wait to never watch this every again.
Plus this movie brought us Mia Goth so make of that what you will.
e pica nas velinhas (com sadomasoquismo)
(btw muito maneira a referencia de antichrist no filme, terminei a trilogia da depressão e muito bacana tb como os 4 filmes sempre tem alguma coisa falando do espaço mesmo que sutilmente)
the piano teacher sweetie I'm so sorry, I'M SO SORRY that a ugly ass bitch like this would even try to make a version of you
I forgot how tragic and beautiful the conclusion of this saga is, but in middle of that there’s some decisions that are so crazy that I just wonder how self-conscious Von Trier is.
