As good as Pixar, DreamWorks, Ghibli, all the animated studios out there can be at their best, none of them could turn out something like this. I've enjoyed both Kubo and Coraline tremendously but Laika has earned my respect with ParaNorman. A film that balances comedy, drama, and especially horror to open a genuine two-sided conversation about bullying, death, religion, environmentalism, sexuality, and family without any of it ever feeling out of place or awkwardly crammed into an exciting adventure with zombies and witches designed for children. Blame it on low expectations but I was completely blown away. Mad respect to Laika for this gorgeous and surprisingly affecting film.

Adorable and fun. Lots of love for this little Movie and it’s fantastic-to-my-eyes animation style. Held up nicely after all these years—I LOVED the ghosts Norman sees, the characters, the music, and the emotional/always relevant message hits hard. Flies by on its whimsy and visual splendor—this is delightful October treat!

When I was younger, I’d always avoid ParaNorman. There was something off-putting about it. 

I don’t know if it was the color pallet or the odd character designs or just how weird it looked.

But I’m honestly glad I decided to watch this now when I’m older because I would not have appreciated it before.

The writing, jokes and visual gags are very clever and most of it would’ve just gone over my head as a kid. 

The art style is really unconventional and strange to look at but it’s so stylised and interesting that you’re never bored with what you’re seeing.

And though it isn’t nearly as “pretty” as Laika’s previous work, Coraline, the stop motion itself is fluid and impressive from a technical standpoint with some really stunning bits near the end.

ParaNorman is so much fun and I like how I liked it a lot more than I was expecting I would.

Laika is a force to be reckoned with. Not only are they one of the sole reasons that stop motion isn’t extinct in the mainstream, but their stop motion is also flawlessly done, and every one of their movies is at the very least fun to watch and beautiful to look at.

This was a way better movie than I expected, and I always love the Halloween aesthetic, so I adore the style of this film so much. One of those ‘all ages can get something out of it’ kind of of movies.

While Coraline is still my favorite from Laika Studios for sentimental reasons, I think it’s hard to dispute the fact that ParaNorman is the studio’s most clever, funniest, and well made film. 

A nonstop parade of laughs and fun, with a wonderful inclusion of really powerful discussions about death, grief, and acceptance.

A beautiful addition to the “Good for Her” Cinematic Universe. Protect Aggie at all costs.

Not a fan of zombies but this had SUCH great jokes and a sweet story line, that it really hit the spot (but oh em geeee was I kind of spooked at some parts lmaoooo)

This was decently enjoyable as a kid’s movie, but does not feel very original or like anything special.

Has a pretty solid third act, but there are pacing and delivery problems up to that point.

A simple vista, puede parecer una historia cualquiera de un niño que ve fantasmas, en un pueblo con la maldición de una bruja que se infesta de zombies. Pero la verdad es que tiene un trasfondo brutal, y termina siendo una historia mucho más profunda de lo que se puede pensar en un inicio.

¿Yo qué sé? Amo Laika. ❤️

y cuándo aparece norma?

A young boy who can see dead people has to save the day when a witch curse is threatening his hometown. The synopsis doesn't sound too great, but it's actually not bad at all. The second act drags a bit (even though seemingly more happens than in the rest of the movie) but the beginning and the end are very nice indeed. Also the clay animation is perhaps the best I've ever seen. The people at Laika have really stepped up their game. Jon Brion's haunting score also deserves a mention.

Quite watchable.

Hey so I forgot how fucking great this movie is. Just the entire end with the little girl is so heartbreaking and emotional. It hits especially hard for me so I just wanted to cry so much while watching it but I couldn’t because my dad was in the room and I have mad repressed emotions  so I can’t cry around other people. So that sadness turns into misplaced anger and it probably stems from my mistreatment as a little girl so as you can guess this movie kills me!!!!

Man when is America gonna wake up and start giving that final witch sequence the absolute respect it deserves???
It lost to BRAVE and nobody batted an eyelash?? Because WRECK-IT RALPH was the darling? Ridiculous.
