- Marty! You've gotta come back with me!
- Where?
- Back to the future.
- Whoa, wait a minute, Doc. What are you talking about? What happens to us in the future? What, do we become assholes or something?
- No, no, no, no, no, Marty. Both you and Jennifer turn out fine. It's your kids, Marty. Something's gotta be done about your kids! They've made a run-of-the-mill found footage movie with plot holes the size of Michael Bay's ego!
- Michael Bay? Found footage? You're getting me a little confused here, Doc.
- Not as confused as you'll be at the end of the movie.
- This is heavy, Doc. Are you sure we have brains enough to comprehend the films of the future? I mean, if they're this smart now, imagine how cerebral they'll be 30 years from now.
- Brains? Where we're going, we don't need brains.
There's a moment in Project Almanac when a lead character goes way back in time to his childhood...
It's 2004!!
Fuck!!!!!!!! I'd already left home by then! I was two years away from meeting my wife! I was already thinking about pensions!
Nothing and I mean NOTHING has ever made me feel so old.
The film itself is a rabid monkey in a cage, it's truly and utterly wild. It has the most hyperactive camera work in cinema history; it simply never sits still and crosses a line - it becomes extremely irritating.
I can only hope this director never works again.
2004! fuck.
“Before the world ends, I’d like to time travel.”
Dean Israelite’s feature film debut, Project Almanac, is a time traveling sci-fi found footage movie centering on a group of nerdy teens who discover blueprints for a time machine and decide to try and build one. The problem I have with found footage films isn’t necessarily the shaky camera, but the lack of commitment to fully relying on the found footage. There are scenes where these friends are together and supposedly everything is filmed by one of them, but during the middle of a conversation we see different edits and cuts. There are other moments where they are zooming in on two characters having a normal conversation with each other from…
I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and stop myself from watching this sad excuse of a movie.
If i had to describe Project Almanac in a word, it would be inconsistent. At times this movie is painfully boring and moves at the pace of a snail mainly in the first half but at other points its actually pretty fun and entertaining. Aside from that theres also some huge plot holes and the characters just aren't that interesting. However that being said, there is some fun to be had and i actually really enjoyed the final act of this movie so its definitely not a train wreck or even that bad of a movie, its just very mediocre. If you're interested in seeing this, then I would say wait for dvd.
Entertaining enough and surprisingly well-acted, but it's pretty predictable and kind of sexist, but that's to be expected when Michael Bay is on board as a producer. But like I said, I did enjoy this film; it's much better than most January flicks and even though it aims towards the MTV-crowd, it doesn't dumb it down for them, which I appreciated.
I need a time machine to go back and tell myself not to watch this crappy movie.
For once a movie produce by Michael Bay that didn't turn out to be the biggest stink pile of the year, to my surprise.
The story is about an old tape of a birthday party that seems to confirm time travel, a group of teens actually construct their own machine... but as they change the past for their betterment - it wrecks havoc on the world and the only way to stop it may be to make sure the machine never comes to be - no matter the cost.
To those people who are sick of found footage movies, well you are not alone. Year after year, you get the same formal of found footage movie and that's why I…
"I'm not gonna go and play God with you guys." ~ Adam Le
What's the difference between building a time machine in 1985 and building one 30 years later? Instead of using a Delorean, you stuff all the equipment into a backpack. Otherwise, if you are teenager, you still have the same pretty simple ideas about how you might change the past. For example, pass the test you failed, get revenge on the mean girl who bullied you, win a million dollars playing the lottery, and take your friends to Lollapalooza to see Imagine Dragons, the best Vegas band ever!
I understand a lot of folks did not like the found footage approach used by director Dean Israelite in his…
So you're telling me dad left a time machine in the basement?
-Christina Raskin
Yes, Christina, you're father left a god damn time machine in the basement and even though he's been dead for a decade no one bothered to clean up his junk downstairs despite the fact it takes up almost the entire sub-level of a house your mother can't even afford.
If you get the feeling I was irritated by this film you'd be right. Five teenagers find a time machine and spend half the film struggling to think of ways to use it. So they end up fixing a failed test and going to Lolla-God-Damn-palooza. Did I mention it's a found footage film?
If you want to…
You can't go wrong with time travel. Unless you're Project Almanac, which takes a perfectly decent premise and lets Michael Bay get his grubby mitts over the production. Dean Israelite apparently directs but whoever he is, you feel the looming spectre of Bay's sledgehammer approach to subtlety all over this found footage picture, one that does absolutely nothing new with what is now a very well worn genre looking for new ideas, fresh approaches, one which Almanac could have been with its lo-fi approach to time travel, centred as it is around Jonny Weston's young MIT wannabe inventor who, thanks to accidentally witnessing a predestination paradox of himself at his own kids birthday party, ends up happening upon time travel…
I dunno, 'cause of the actors ba or mismong plot? SKSKSKSKSKSKAKSK 😭
---- Zuviel Wackelkamera
--- Zuviel Woo-Hoo
-- Zuviel Teenagergehabe
- Zuviele überstürtzte Aktionen
Der Film ist einfach etwas nervend!
Pretty entertaining and a interesting concept.
The climax was so concerning.
But I think it became ridiculous at some point.
Project Almanac: process, hit and miss, but still an okay simple and stupid time-travel adventure.

3,5 estrelinhas.
