Continuing my revisiting of 00’s horror remakes, this is certainly one of the worst ones, especially the original theatrical cut. Luckily I watched the unrated cut so the slight increase in gore and onscreen kills makes it perfectly passable entertainment when you have bronchitis and you just want to lay in bed and watch something completely stupid.
It’s still not a good movie by any means. The story is so unoriginal it’s almost like a parody of itself, but hey it’s got a good cast that includes Brittany Snow and Idris Elba so that’s really all my sick ass needs for the time being!
During the opening credits a cover of The Zombie's "Time of the Season" plays and it's awful, it set the tone for the rest of this remake. It was a sign of the shitty film to come.
It's bad enough when you're already giving the audience predictable jump scares but it's even worse when you keep using the same set-up! How many times do you expect to get a startle out of non-horror fans when the character closes her medicine cabinet?! Was this just an excuse to show her anxiety-medicine?! I swear to god, I think this movie was sponsored by Klonopin as that was exactly what she was looking at every time she opened the cabinet AND she offered…
Everybody gangster until American Accent Idris Elba shows up to the party.
What a piece of shit of a movie. All the kills are cutaways. It literally has nothing to do with the original in terms of story or characters. Just rips off the name.
Brittany Snow is good but the rest is complete crap. And actually, I don’t have a problem with the killer in this. He actually would’ve been pretty effective had they given him some cool kills.
Bottom line. I still haven’t seen a great slasher movie that was PG-13.
i know im clearly built different but i’d just survive? he’s 1 dumb man and im 1 smart bitch?
My standards for films are obviously a few sea levels below everyone else’s.

From the writers of the Covenant, the director of Killing Kennedy and the producers that brought you such hits as Sniper 3, comes Prom Night, a reimagining of a very average movie from 1980 ( boxd.it/mpw2L ). This Brittany Snow vehicle is horrible. The dialogue for the teens is really bad and either the director doesn't know how to fix the dialogue or doesn't know how to make the bad dialogue over the top and funny (this movie is a good example of how under-appreciated Renny Harlin is in my opinion, he would have willed this script to 3 stars).

I'm in the mood for bad movies today .. and oh god this was terrible.
Acting you can't even describe as amateurish. Horrible camera and lighting. Amazingly terrible music and cheap jump scares
Characters you can't like, no matter how much you try. A story full of cliches, boring as hell. And not a single entertaining kill. There isn't even blood in this movie .. what the fuck?
One of those movies where you are for the killer, that he gets everybody. But even the killer is boring as fuck.
This movie was so awful ... it fully met my expectations.
Tell me you’re a filmmaker who doesn’t understand how to build tension and has to rely on the same exact jump scare on repeat for 88 minutes without telling me you’re a filmmaker who doesn’t understand how to build tension and has to rely on the same exact jump scare on repeat for 88 minutes.
Director Nelson McCormick: “I’ll go first”
The original PROM NIGHT was no special night to remember, in my opinion. It was sloppy, and it was cheap-looking. But at least the production had a bit of a clue what it was trying to emulate. There were some good shot compositions, the thread binding the script together more or less worked, and even the bush-league performances by the kids playing the killer-killer game makes PROM NIGHT him along.
2008’s PROM NIGHT is more of a dance-party for millennials with the odd (odd as in ridiculous) knife attack thrown in. If horror films emulate a social strife, a universal terror, or at least rip off another film, this film seems devoid of any of that. Rather than any amount…
I always end up watching this movie at like 3AM, it’s never at a reasonable hour.
i remember when this movie came out because brittany snow was in hairspray the year before. now watching this as a 22-year-old... why are there so many actors that i know in this.
as for the actual movie (with casting aside), it's everything i expected from 2000s horror movies and 80s remake so it was a fun watch.
Do you think Idris Elba and James Ransone talked about how much they missed a well written script?
Words to describe the remake of Prom Night:
Unimaginative
Boring
Tasteless
Stale
Garbage
Awful
Shit...
You don't really hear a lot about this movie besides it just being I guess bad, but boyyyyy was this a real piece of shit.
First off this movie has no business being called "Prom Night" it has absolutely nothing to do with the original slasher from 1980. It just takes place on Prom Night, thats it. No familiar characters or story. I recently discussed how the Wrong Turn remake that just came out takes the approach of taking the simple original concept of the first and making it, it's own thing, but Prom Night is not that at all. It just takes a familiar…
