9/11 art is rough, because it's this real awful thing that was a defining moment to everyone my age, but now all the people who are still really mad about it are stupid racists? And then layer in the irony poisoning that all millennials have overdosed on. I don't know.
Dave Mckean's iconic imagery almost immediately post-9/11 is on display here in a short cinematic commissioned by MTV of all people, to display not only the dismay in a freshly-scarred America, but also a glimpse of unity at the end. Although shown in both disarray and hope, the short is also rather eerie.
A short but beautiful meditation on the tragedy of 9/11, made soon after the event itself and based on a painting done for the book 9-11: Artists Respond.
Everything in the short is very deliberate and composed, creating a memorable image.
