The most visually impressive film of the year, hands down. The story is kind of half-baked, though. It’s one of those movies that just stops rather than actually ending. Also, I appreciate how bizarre some of the soundtrack choices are.
You ever pause a movie while streaming to buy a physical copy? I truly don't understand why the internet hasn't lost its damn mind over this movie.
If you give even a single solitary fuck about animation please please please watch this movie. I think "like nothing you've ever seen before" gets overused, but this truly is like nothing you've ever seen before.
The great joy here is absolutely in the style, but I think the story is also thoroughly engaging. There's also lounge jazz covers of Britney's "Oops!… I Did It Again" and Radiohead's "Creep."
I also know an ok amount about art and movie history and picked up on a good amount of fun references here, and I'm sure if you know a lot there's much more to appreciate.

A psychoanalyst who uses art as a fundamental piece of his therapies lives tormented by a series of dreams in which he is viciously attacked by characters from famous works of art. Trying to get to the root of what he believes are becoming episodes of schizophrenia, he is assisted a group of eccentric characters led by a mysterious acrobat kleptomaniac to build an interesting collection that might help the protagonist dispel the ghosts of the troubled past.
Ruben Brandt, Collector is an elegantly made Hungarian animated film that combines a story of burglaries with noir elements and a couple of intense action scenes. The film is above all a tribute to art on the part of someone passionate about…
Rarely do we ever see movies like Ruben Brandt, Collector in theaters. A very unique adult animation in both presentation and execution. The way it talks about art while also creating a compelling psychological thriller is commendable to say the least. Worth watching for sure!t
Wow, every time I watch a film from this country it's a masterpiece. Any moment you interrupt this beauty and admire it, because every second of every shot is a brilliant achievement. But you have to keep going, because everything is rich and masterful in this offbeat, strange and ultra-ambitious universe, with the character of Ruben Brandt forced to steal thirteen of the most famous works of art in order to put an end to his nightmares, because watching this is like having the weirdest dream of your entire life, like Salvador Dalí's paintings, so surreal is everything and the soundtrack is a delight to listen to
A poetic style full of pictorial and cinematographic references and the whole point…

A uniquely exuberant animated film that focuses thoroughly on its artistic side. Visually, it's stunning with a distinctive style that helps bring its love for art to life. The writing lacks originality and enough individuality to stand out but as has been mentioned, it makes up for that with its irresistible art; Ruben Brandt, Collector is a beautiful, surreal, and heartfelt debut from Hungary's Milorad Krstić. The filmmaker is actually a (currently) 69 year old artist who had previously made one short film back in 1995, with this 2018 movie being his first feature length film.
Would've loved to see this in the hands of a more experienced and meditative writer (Paul Schrader, Robert Towne, Céline Sciamma, and David Lynch…
A very creative, beautiful looking film that I recommend this for people to see if they love animation. This is a beautiful unique film that's also a heist film and thriller. Each frame is like a work of art, detailed and inventive with influences from the art that the film mentions. Tgis is a film that I think you could rewatch and notice things that were missed the first times. The faces of the characters and even people in the backgrounds are wonderfully strange to see. This has some unique song and soundtrack choices as well. The film also has some fantastic action. The story is ok but this film is worth seeing because of how it looks.I recommend this for any fans of animation

"Art is the key to the troubles of the mind"
Europe's answer to Satoshi Kon. Everyone should be talking about this!
A surreal animated Hungarian psychological thriller espionage heist action art drama KINO... with countless references to cinema and other pieces of art. Even though the story is irrelevant in the bigger picture, Milorad Krstić and his team really outdid themselves.
For all I care, the Louvre could replace Mona Lisa with Ruben Brandt, Collector.
maybe i’m a tad biased because I’m coming off an art history course high but this was absolutely delightful! The most well done film I’ve seen in a while now. And the soundtrack featuring postmodern jukebox covers of Britney Spears?? YES please!
