I do have a certain affinity toward films that deal with the theme of religion (Black Narcissus, First Reformed or even the recent The Devil All the Time) and I was excited about this more considering it's a horror film, and it did justify my expectations towards a certain extent.
This is more of an atmospheric horror film with the more explicit moments reserved for the last, so a major portion of this film did seem ordinary, but this is a short film and all those empty moments are justified in bringing a better structure to the story and the characters. The atmosphere is always maintained at a tense level and that helps this a lot. And that ending was neat.
I would love to see Rose Glass make more horror films in the future.
