The film-shoot backdrop lets Craven go a little wild on the meta stuff to the point where a lot of it pivots into outright self parody, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it isn't properly balanced with simple scary movie mechanics, which twist themselves into knots trying to both maintain a mystery and shoehorn in backstory and returning characters. That said it does have a series high-point sequence, Sid being chased through the set of her childhood home, deliberately drawing attention to artifice to deliver an almost BEING JOHN MALKOVICH-y tour through memory and trauma that might be an emotional peak for the franchise. Certainly not running on fumes but a little low on gas for sure. The always glorious Parker Posey absolutely walks off with it while nobody else is looking.

Wes Craven’s poison pen letter to Hollywood. Very underrated, maybe because it abandons the more grounded surface of the early moves for full on DePalmian artifice. It’s a rather mean spirited horror comedy predicted in as many doubling variations as Craven can find. And it has the best casting in the series from Parker Posey/Courtney Cox double team to Dempsey as hunk Hollywood detective. And it comes full circle to Craven’s New Nightmare and probably even more angry than that movie.

The weakest film in the Scream franchise. It lacks the wittiness and cleverness of the previous two. Nonetheless, I still liked it, mainly because of its timely themes.

Scream 3 points out the dirty and abusive system/politics of Hollywood. The ironity of it all? This was executive produced by Harvey Weinstein.

scream 4: sidney goes to therapy?? 🙏🏻

Not as good as the others but it has some solid elements that are fun for fans of the franchise. Patrick Dempsey is a good addition to the cast and Sidney's story is played out very well. The film lacks in terms of the villain's story and the repetitive beats in Dewey and Gail's relationship. Putting the problems with the film aside Carrie Fisher and Patrick Warburton are excellent and the jokes and scares totally land!

my hopes are never high for sequels but this was way better than scream 2

I’ll take the characters, the cameos and the prowl, but this 2000 film further proves why Kevin Williamson is a repugnantly awful hack writer who should’ve been (figuratively) beheaded.

La tercera parte tiene cosas muy interesantes, aunque esta vez la/el asesino es un poco más “increíble”. Pero lo que más me gustó es el hecho que transcurra en medio del rodaje de la película en la que se basa los asesinatos, haciendo que se acerque bastante al metacine. Vuelve a jugar mucho con nosotros en cuanto quién es el sospechoso, con trampas, y los habituales jump scares. Muy entretenida.

This one was good but was kinda all over the place. I enjoyed the ending very much, more than the kinda slow beginning. The Scream series is truly so entertaining and fun to watch. On to scream 4, and soon 5.

I remember watching this film on Halloween day, partly in my classes, and partly at home after school, and although now it’s really foggy in my mind compared to the other ones, I remember thinking how weird and backwards it was that I liked it so much compared to other people. Not my favorite, but I did like it a lot.

Better than the second. Craven does a better job of playing with the meta elements here (a film within a film) than trying to riff on other college-set slashers like in Scream 2.

I never realised how invested I was in these characters until the opening scene of this movie because at this point in the series that is why we keep watching, especially when this series doesn't have a Freddy, or a Jason and instead is a glorified episode of Scooby Doo as each entry we find out who is wearing the mask - "and they would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for them pesky kids".

It's impossible to take "Ghostface" seriously as a threat and it has moments of stupidity mixed with slapstick and humour, and I still enjoyed it. Sometimes I was laughing at it, other times I stopped and wondered if that was the reaction Wes was going for.

God only knows why Jay and Silent Bob are in this. Not Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, actually them in character. Also didn't care much for the new lyrics to Red Right Hand.
