my favorite part was how colin farrell was hot the whole time and didn't turn into johnny depp at the end
i relate to woody harrelson in seven psychopaths and keanu reeves in john wick because i, too, would go on a killing rampage for a dog
my ideal colin farrell? when he's just witnessed his first murder & he has other people's blood on his face and his own puke on his jacket & he's shaking & muttering "i just ... didn't need this today," while sam rockwell takes care of him. thanks, seven psychopaths (2012), for giving me exactly what i craved!
Seven Psychopaths is nothing more than a sun-baked mess, and that's precisely why it continues to surprise, astonish, move, and bring moments of sidesplitting laughter. It is nothing less than a meta masterwork, piecing together fragments of character and emotional tangents until the conclusion releases a strange sense of catharsis. The side stories involving the titular psychopaths are overloaded with hazy lines of dialogue that hit hard, and Ben Davis' cinematography seeks the melancholy within every shadowy corner.
The emotional layers ("I like it, It's got layers...") rise because of the sublime dose of humor, all coming from a brilliant script delivered by a unspeakably great cast. Seeing Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, and Christopher Walken argue with each other is…
Martin McDonagh has another cult hit on his hands. In a lot of ways, Seven Psychopaths is more similar to a mash-up of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Adaptation than In Bruges, which is probably my dream movie come true. McDonagh's strengths are writing witty dialogue and character development, which shines through his outlandish and twilight-zoney premise in this case. Everything the trailer tells you about the movie is basically a lie, setting it up to be a silly comedy. Those of us who love In Bruges know to expect much more.
Marty (Colin Farrell) is an Irish screenwriter who drinks too much and is experiencing a bad case of writer's block. His screenplay is called "Seven Psychopaths" but he…
Seven Psychopaths? More like The Seven Lesbians Who Are All Disabled And Have Overcome All Their Spazzy Shit And Are Really Nice to Everybody And Two of Them Are Black
Seven Psychopaths is a case of difficult second movie syndrome for director, Martin McDonagh, and whilst it is probably destined for cult status, just as In Bruges was, it is a far less satisfying experience. This is a messy and self-reflexive story about a struggling Irish writer, Marty, and his difficulties with completing his latest script (also called Seven Psychopaths). Throw in the kidnapping of a mob boss’ dog and Marty’s unstable and psychopathic best friend and you’ve got a volatile mix of stories and characters.
It is a film wrapped up in its own self-awareness with its witty but indulgent meta-commentary and genre deconstruction overwhelming everything in its path. It’s a film consumed by its own ideas and writer…
Seven Psychopaths is a comedy thriller about a writer writing a screenplay about seven psychopaths, his friend who kidnaps dogs and his friend who takes those dogs back for money. It's somehow similar to McDonagh's previous movie but not quite as good.
Quite often it felt like there's something off with the movie, but I couldn't put my finger on what it is. It was directing, writing, or acting of Sam Rockwell or Colin Farrell. Most of the time though there isn't much wrong with either of those. The screenplay is great and I especially loved Christopher Walken's bit in the very end.
Entertaining stuff, recommended.
Brillant!
"Yeah, it's a hard world for women, but most of the ones I know can string a sentence together." So says Walken's character Hans, who is the best developed sketch in this series of sketches about movie tropes. It's so knowing. Too knowing. Do people still say meta? Not as much finesse as I'd hoped given the cast, but as movies that stick it to Hollywood go, I've seen worse.
Perhaps too self-aware and meta for its own good. It has the bones of a classic, but there are too many misses regarding the film's wink-at-the-audience/tongue-in-cheek humor.
A winding and surprisingly meta plot are the strengths of this movie for me. I wasn’t as much of a fan of the dialogue in this film compared to Martin’s other works like Three Billboards and In Bruges. Still the film lands better than it takes off and is worth a watch for fans of quick wit and bloodshed.
An extremely interesting and meta comedy/crime movie that makes fun of the crime genre and how typical many of the Hollywood tropes are in countless crime/action movies. The acting is good, with some pretty locations. I liked the story, but I didn’t love it. The best part about the characters were their interactions with one another, on all sides of the story overall. I would describe this movie as unique above all else, meaning some people will really like the meta humor, and some will not.
Favorite character: Christopher Walken as Hans
The few problems with the movie gets a little bit visible on the second watch. I still love it though by any means. It is fun and enjoyable to watch. It has good and enjoyable stories everywhere and it is one of the best, I have ever seen.
You shot him in the back.
Ofcourse i shot him in the back i was going for the spine.
