Didn't see it back in the day but just watched the digital 3D version on the Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray and loved it! Probably the best looking slasher out there. The cinematography, lighting and production design are top-notch. Great discovery.

My old review is missing (?) so I’ll just jot down what I remember about this movie, sheriff Sidney Lassick and his filing cabinet full of beer cans rules, weirdo doctors covering up their ineptness, solid albeit mostly bloodless kills, and numerous other slasher hallmarks that add to the enjoyable stew that is Silent Madness.
Neat little movie ripe for rediscovery with this new disc coming out... and yes James, I will be buying it.... at some point lol!
Yep, I still love this silly slasher, apparently more than most but that’s not surprising and totally ok. I feel like there must be an unedited version of this that I haven’t seen because the kills are all very creative but pretty bloodless so if I ever find that version then I’ll throw this bitch a full 4 stars.
Sydney Lassick yells at a guy to quit thinking with his dick so there’s that too and really how much more do you need? A version in 3D?? Because that is also a thing!

What a release from Vinegar Syndrome. Rescuing this 3D slasher oddity from obscurity, it's quite a disc. The movie isn't the greatest hack and slash to exist in three dimensions, as I have quite a fondness for Friday the 13th Part 3 and the My Bloody Valentine remake, but it delivers the goods when necessary. Some gnarly kills in here, and a few twists and turns.
SILENT MADNESS IN 3D!!!! Well more like 9D because watching a 3D movie drunk makes all 3 of them turn to 9 of em. But I regret nothing! I can't remember the last time I watched a 3D movie. The whole experience was absolutely divine let me tells ya!
Silent Madness gives you what you would expect and delivers some delicious 80s slasher goodness. A fairly straight forward slasher that's highlighted by the 3D presentation. It's a pretty contrived plot with the typical "violent patient escapes from the psychiatric hospital" story but it's just so dang comforting.
Sure it's safe and predictable but sometimes you just need an entertaining slice of 80s cheese. The gory kills, the goofy characters, the random nudity, the deadpan delivery and overall unintentional magic just hits home.

Here is a decent but unremarkable slasher. The simple plot functions to set up some grisly kills, especially the first one, a skull-cracking death by vise. There is a nod to social conscience though. The heroine, a female psychiatrist, has to endure all kinds of misogyny and harassment at the hospital where she eventually uncovers a conspiracy to cover up the truth....then her life is in danger both from her employers and the sweaty serial killer. It definitely presents a grim (and possibly warranted) view of the public mental health system in the 1980s.
Queen of MFTV films, Belinda Montgomery, is convincing as our heroic Shrink. Sydney Lassack steals his scenes as a slovenly and…
Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.

When people talk about how the 80s was the best time for horror. I mean Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, My Bloody Valentine. Sure. But man people really like to ignore the super boring shit like this.
If you had heard of a slasher, never seen one, and wrote one, it would look like this. Escaped mental patient kills sorority girls. Snore.
The one plus was the chick playing a Dragon's Lair cabinet. So points there
Anyway. Enough stuff. I'm going to blog post here for a minute.
So 10 years ago yesterday, I got my Lucky Ball and Chain, I mean that not…

A woefully soporific excuse for a slasher film populated by some of the most relentlessly nasty and self-important characters the genre has ever created. Much of the staff of the psychiatric hospital where the film begins are a relentless bunch of bastards that at least competently acted, but considered the pallidly drawn figure of Dr. Joan Gilmore, the fact that they occupy any sort of air space with their sheer unceasing unpleasantness is a drain on the brain of the audience.
Not helping this is the languid editing, utterly…
The strange second cousin to Friday the 13th Part 3D. When you watch this, you will feel like they were made by the same people because the look and feel is nearly identical mostly due to the 3D photography. Shots are slightly hazy and overly lit and have that weird uncanny valley where they try to make objects fly at the screen in ways that must’ve given the audience a headache.
The story itself is kind of interesting with a mental hospital mistakingly releasing a violent psychopath who goes on a murderous rampage that leads back to a sorority house where his initial killings started. If you’re like me then you’ll appreciate the settings of the film and relish in the cheesiness of it all. And don’t blink because you might miss a couple Sleepaway Camp actors in this one. Also gotta love the poster for this!
Totally zany, and although I feel like a pair of those 80s red and blue 3D glasses would have improved the visuals, Silent Madness is still a beautifully crafted thing with a pretty kooky storyline. Nevertheless, that squished head in a bench vice scene was a thing of great beauty.
When a mentally unstable serial killer is released from a secure facility after a clerical mix up, he returns to the scene of his indiscretions to pick up where he left off. As the facility try to cover things up, Dr. Joan sets off on his heels, being all doctorish, sleuthy and hot, all at the same time.
With its slick production and entertaining narrative, this is a huge step-up from the only other film of director Simon Nuchtern's that I've seen - the car crash that is Snuff.
No joke…the meticulously thought out shot composition is comparable to that of Martin Scorsese’s Hugo when it comes to 3D cinema.
And yet, the story of a mental patient who is accidentally released to wreak havoc on the public is full of drab hospital settings and long scenes of exposition, making you wonder why this was chosen to be shot for 3D in the first place.
But hey…tits, gore, a couple of ridiculous murder weapons and the mom from Doogie Howser M.D. in a starring role is just enough to give this a mild recommendation…especially if you are watching one of the 3D versions released by Vinegar Syndrome. I watched the anaglyphic (red/blue glasses) version, and while hard on the…
Madness ensues when a murderous psychiatric patient is accidentally let loose and now on his way to slice up some sorority girls in this 80's slasher that's been plucked from both obscurity and the third dimension.
While Sundays are for Slashers, Sundays are not for having a pair of anaglyphic 3D glasses on my bald head for 90 minutes so I watched this in 2D and wouldn't you know this movie ended up being flat as fuck. What gives?!
Not without its charms though, Sydney Lassick is beamed in from a John Waters flick as the floppity cop, there's a handful of slasher alumni that pop up, and some of the kills have a chilling quality to them.
But I…
