Silent Night, Deadly Night was an actually pretty entertaining take on what an emotionally scarred kid who would later grow up to be a killer Santa conveniently done slasher style.
Robert Brian Wilson's impressive performance as Billy was convincing for the most part especially when he starts to begin his Christmas killing spree all because 'Santa' killed his parents when he was a kid. As a slasher flick, it assuredly is one of the better ones that came out in the early 80s and the kills in this one are quite gruesome for all slasher fans like me to enjoy.
Definitely will check out the later sequels one day since the ending is left ambiguous.
Controversial mean spirited murder jam and a holiday injected with distastefulness. Right up my alley. Even though I’m burnt out on holidays after thanksgiving, I usually get my rocks off during December by binging a ton of holiday horror but this year has been different—I’ve been working like crazy and just not feeling festive, so here I am, midway through December, and I couldn’t not watch this lewd, PTSD triggered Santa murder spree with not so subtle messages about holiday commercialism.

Remember when a Vice blogger stated that Happy Death Day 2U was the first horror film to deal with grief? If you hadn't already guffawed when that click-bait title first dropped, I hope you're rolling your eyes back as you're reading this, because it's a preposterous claim, one that Silent Night, Deadly Night, just a single example in a sea of titles that exemplify Horror's thematic underpinnings as a genre and an aesthetic, promptly axes. What first and foremost functions as a gnarly low-budget sleaze-fest also operates as a traumatic exploration of the memories that haunt and ruin our lives, perpetuating cycles of ideas within parameters of abuse and sexual dysfunction. Sure, this movie has a topless woman impaled by a set of deer-antlers, but it also has lingering, uncomfortable moments of children being exposed to the harsh realities of the world, and the surprising forms in which it inhabits. Shocking, vicious, and sad - a real horror-show.

Why didn't I like this movie for so long? After a 6+ year hiatus since the last time I watched Silent Night, Deadly Night, it finally found me in the right mood to appreciate it, which is apparently fucking exhausted.
Loved the little kid at the beginning who played Billy, hilarious that he ended up with the same exact Santa costume as the man who killed his parents 13 years earlier, the woman who worked at the toy store, with that hideous hat during the Christmas party, she was so good at being murdered on screen/looking believably out of her mind scared, enjoyed the over-the-top progression of how the slasher villain turned into, well, a slasher villain, guess I'm finally just another moon goon for Silent Night, Deadly Night!

Relatable, this month is exhausting the hell out of me with crazy work schedule and I can’t wait for the new year—luckily there’s ultra mean degenerate scuzzfest ‘punish’ movies like this to help me through!
cackle every single time i get to the scene where the cop just straight up guns santa down in front of a bunch of orphans, spraying his blood all over them. we later find out this was actually the local priest and not the sexually-repressed, violently traumatized santa that is out and about decapitating sledders and hoisting teenagers onto mounted reindeer texas chainsaw meathook style. fun movie. if like me you are a pyscho.
Gave this the annual rewatch while drinking hot toddy’s and wow I don’t want to see another one of those for a while, but this movie is such glorious trash that I’m always happy to see.
The beginning is truly disturbing, Grandpa is the scariest character of all, Linnea’s is the best kill, and Billy is the kind of killer you’d rather run to than away from. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because pt. 2’s GARBAGE DAY is the greatest thing ever.
Drunk Ms. Randall yelling “MR. SIIIIIIIMMMSS!!” across the store is one of my favorite movie moments ever.
Incredibly mean spirited, but this is the rare occasion where that hasn’t really bothered me. I’ve always liked Silent Night, Deadly Night for Evoking the holiday in question very nicely AND injecting it with brutal distastefulness. Grandpa is the best, and so is the store that’s selling all Halloween stuff in December. My kinda joint!

I love that Gene Siskel was so offended by the existence of this movie that he thought it necessary to read out the names of those who made it on a weekly special of "At the Movies". He unintentionally gave the movie a second life by leaning into his belief that it was a dangerous film to let loose for the viewing public. It reminds me of when I went to church as a pre-teen and my pastor took the time to tell us that Marilyn Manson or Eminem were artists that needed to be kept away from children. Ahhh, that hit the spot. Homicidal, ax-wielding Santa really gets me into the holiday spirit. And I love that the cops gunned down an old, deaf priest just cuz he was wearin' a Santa suit. Oh, and that was after bursting into someone's home with guns drawn and nearly shooting some father for dressing up as Santa to surprise his daughter. Hell, maybe this is a documentary.
Some really great kills up in here. Classic.
Awful Jollies. Sap and camp are in the form of snowflakes descending onto corpses. The killer caught in the chimney, wriggling and thirsty. Almost like a snake from a Krampus mouth.
I’ve clearly gone down the rabbit hole entirely at this point, when it comes to slashers. I broke on both series that I tried to be judicious and selective on (Halloween and Friday the 13th, or, for that matter, A Nightmare on Elm Street), and random titles I knew nothing about except that they were slashers. I’d avoided this one, mostly due to the negative reputation of its infamously recycled sequel, but was curious, as ever, about the original.

Um trasheira oitentista que eu amo. As sequências são horríveis? São! Mas esse aqui tem seu charme, um visual característico, uma história bem amarrada e que faz sentido até certo ponto e tem um papai noel assassino, não tem como ser ruim. Os efeitos práticos são muito bons, sempre que assisto esses filmes eu choro pelo como o CGI deixou hollywood preguiçosa e usa CGI até pro que não precisa. Enfim, clássico.
Uno de los Slayers mejores trabajados y más originales que ví. Mi primera impresión fue que sería una película truchisima, pero que al final me dejó un gusto muy gustoso, sabiendo que estaba degustando algo de calidad. Las muertes son muy creativas y el personaje como tal, pudo haber sido un poco más trabajado, pero eso ya sería ser muy quisquiyoso. Un buen Slayer que tiene el puesto de clásico para mi.

Actually well directed - some truely awful performances (which were great in their awfulness) grandpa has to be a highlight (and the cop that kills Billy at the end - his stance alone was priceless
