eyes glued to the screen during the 20 minute flesh-squelching face-sucking anal-fisting body horror orgy but had to look away when they showed 5 seconds of worms in an apple :/
What Jaws did for swimming in the ocean, Society did for attending underground incest orgies.
Best utilization of the term butthead in the history of all cinema, television and literature.

Basically if Rosemary's Baby and They Live put on their swimsuit and went to the beach. Terrifying in plain sight, and rooted in sun-baked pain and carnality. One of the most shocking conclusions I can think of, even though it can be seen from miles away.
Watching Screaming Mad George's Salvador Dali-inspired creations come to life and shunt on the Arrow blu-ray release was nothing short of amazing.
I've lost count of how many times I've seen Brian Yuzna's Society, but I will never forget the first time I watched it and the reaction I had to the final, gooey scene illuminated in a pink glow. It was (and remains) like nothing I have ever seen before in a horror film, and there was a message within about paranoia and the rich devouring the poor, to make that final scene more than a 70-minute payoff.
"...it's a matter of good breeding, really.."

SYNOPSIS: An ordinary teenage boy discovers his family is part of a gruesome orgy cult for the social elite.

Beverly Hills teen Bill Whitney (Baywatch's Billy Warlock) is good at sports and popular at his high school, but he feels alienated from his upper-crust family. His parents are indifferent towards him while lavishing favor upon his sister. Sometimes he even feels like they're conspiring against him, but…
Although the overall narrative does take a bit to get going along in this, Society nevertheless makes for a distinctly well-made directorial debut from Brian Yuzna as he capably crafts a satirical body horror film that is favorably imaginative as a whole, and is one feature that is thoroughly filled to the brim with loads of profoundly impressive practical make-up effects in an unbelievable climax that still to this day remains as substantially indelible as ever.
Upper class deplorables are feeding (literally) on everyone else in this sadistically psychosexual goo fest which involves a Beverly Hills teen discovering his parents are part of a gruesome orgy cult for the social elite. Works very well at displaying the golden age of grotesque (the 80’s) and Shunting has never been as glamorous as its depicted here.
Society is a pretty good 80’s teen sex romp/mystery film for 2/3rds of its runtime until it goes all the way in its spectacular final act, passing into the threshold of greatness as surrealistic gore wizard Screaming Mad George dazzles us with orgasmic depictions of pinkly lit depravity.
A must watch, and possibly Yuzna’s finest hour as a director.
wealth as the conduit for all the psychosexual, lovecraftian perversities you're told are definitely not happening beneath the surface of power. the utterly repulsive, phantasmagoric finale is as surreal and visceral a depiction of class violence and sexual depravity as there's ever been and feels particularly apt in the midst of the jeff epstein news. "i'm not paranoid, all my fears are real."
Ah, Society. One of the most batshit mainstream films to come out if the 80’s. I love this movie so much. How the hell does one even come up with a story like this?! Drugs, that’s how and sometimes drugs are very good!
The practical effects are so deliciously disgusting and the “butthead” scene is so fucking corny, but I laugh every time. Fact: Billy Warlock can get it and get it hard. Even his name is hot! Anyway, this movie is Brian Yuzna’s directorial masterpiece and I’ll tolerate nothing to the contrary. Facts are just facts.
