I fucking love this movie. With Spartan & Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Val Kilmer starred back-to-back in two of the coolest, most entertaining, most quotable, most criminally overlooked films of the early 2000s.
A whip-smart thriller where the characters talk like actual professionals. This movie has no time for needless exposition, it drops you into the middle of a situation and trusts you to pick-up & fill in the details for yourself as it plays out.
I don’t know how to pick which Mamet work has my favorite dialogue, but this one is near the top...
“You need to set your motherfucker to receive.”
“Don’t you teach them knife-fighting, teach them to kill. That way, they come up against some poor son-of-a-bitch studied knife fighting, they send his soul to hell.”
“You wanted to go through the looking glass. How was it? More fun than miniature golf?”
I hope more people eventually discover this. Mamet rules.
