The screen movie concept finally doesn’t feel like a gimmick, and instead of going “haha that is what it’s like to get a notification on a MacBook” it’s “haha twitch viewers would pogchamp a murder.”

There are two halves to Spree -- one half that works, and one that doesn't. The half that works is this as a conceptual idea that understands the idea of streaming in a way that I don't think any other film has even attempted to show, and honestly shows the internet 'hive mind' in a really excellent light. Kurt (Joe Keery) not getting caught out figured out at any point definitely feels like asking the viewers to suspend their disbelief, but aside from that I really liked the usage of the Twitch chat and found/fan-stitched footage of Kurt. I did not like this film at all. Joe Keery is talented, but I just couldn’t get into his performance as Kurt. I feel like the potential was there, but ultimately I was underwhelmed with this one. The were a bloody scenes that I enjoyed.
