100/100
It's all so tragic, isn't it? "War!", the opening crawl proclaims, but Lucas captures battles in multiple spaces besides the physical, evoking primal feelings through ancient tragedy and the void of conflicting ideologies haunted by personal agenda. While the conclusion of Attack of the Clones - highlighted by a smash cut from the early Empire to Anakin and Padme's secret wedding - sings to where our heart lies, Revenge of the Sith orchestrates a symphony of broken, corrupt civilization and shattered relationships around a protagonist who we cannot help. His arc - the inevitable shift into Darth Vader - is set in stone, a myth passed down by the fans of its creator, but it isn't celebratory or portrayed…
"so this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause."
shit, this still rules. the grimmest, fullest, most cogent and expressive realization of lucas' anti-war sentiments (a president starts a war with a rebel group he funded to trick the population and consolidate more power? sure hope that never happens) and interest in the tragedy of good people trapped in political institutions. the fatalistic plotting that on previous watches read to me as simple franchise mechanics play with far more dread and regret than i remembered and the pure open-wound, operatic mood of the final hour—the apocalyptic anguish and heartache of mustafar in particular but also the horror gestures that lace anakin's paranoia/wielding of political power—is easily his finest achievement as a director.
Anakin's character arc slaughters me
& wondrously wild world-building too.
Ridiculously, ruthlessly & rivetingly
deserving of its recent reappraisal;
a masterwork of the highest order
(and no, I am not, in the slightest,
being hyperbolic and/or facetious).
My favorite Star Wars film of the
eight that have been released thus far.
it’s crazy how this movie was bad for a decade, and then it just like....became good
A familiar story of how democracies crumble and evil ends up winning - but civilization doesn't crumble, instead it transitions from Republic to Empire. It remains a democracy.
Lots to go on about here in this film, but look at how Lucas crosscuts through the entire film (usually he saves crosscutting for the final third) between Anakin's emotional narrative/journey and the more conceptual political discourse. The goal here, is for us to understand the political dynamics of this world and how it collapses, while reacting to it on an emotional level. We don't view the politics objectively but rather have emotional consequences as a viewer because of the responding narrative. Therefore, when we see Padme's funeral, we realize it is…
One of my favorite comedies. It continues to drop the ball with Anakin's character, and anything involving him is a massive trainwreck. The first half of the movie is mostly boring as well. But once you hear the words "I am the senate," this movie becomes an absolute blast. The story becomes strangely compelling, the action is solid, the memes really land. Anakin is way more compelling as an irredeemable antagonist than he is a fallen hero, after all. Overall, I like this movie! It's a solid mix of "so bad, it's good" elements and...well, genuinely good stuff. Also I would marry the score if I could
Spellbinding, bursting with operatic emotion, and fully deserving of the Star Wars title; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is a fantastical masterpiece that weaves both a layered story with incredible set-pieces. To say that its underrated is a massive understatement.
Finally coming up with material that is both influential and important to the Star Wars universe; George Lucas tells Anakin's descent into utter despair as if his reputation depended on it. Oh wait, his reputation DID depend on it. If this wasn't anything less than satisfactory, fans would have flipped their shit, and even though this installment was mostly liked by many; It still got panned by many fans. I just don't understand them sometimes.
Let's talk about the…
Nice to know the last hour is as traumatising now when I am 23 as it was when I was 8
Better soundtrack than Last Jedi.
Better production design than Last Jedi.
Better characters than Last Jedi.
Better story than Last Jedi.
Better lightsaber fights than Last Jedi.
Better film than Last Jedi.
Holy shit you guys, Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader?1?! Well cut off my legs and call me Daddy! Still the best of the second trilogy, though.
The best of the prequels by a long shot. Has a brilliant soundtrack, and some great moments from Hayden Christensen. It still sufferes from George Lucasism, clunky dialogue and the a dreadful romance between Anakin and Padme
the boy you trained, gone he is.
finally done with the prequels of my star wars binge and holy shittt this one was really the icing on the cake for anakin... was the previous 2 movies even necessary? swear they could have just squeezed it in. anyways my god i had sooo much emotions during the ending of this... every line from obiwan, padmé & anakin just made me SOB!!!!! the attachment i had towards anakin... i’m emotional dhmu. HE WAS SO HOT IN THIS ONE TOO MY GOODNESSSSSSSSS!!! clicking play on the original star wars now, luke here i come 🥸👍
might change this ratings when i finish all the movies
