Was really into this show, especially the first half. This despite the fact for most of it I wasn't sure what was happening, why it was happening, or what any of the characters wanted. The aesthetic is really specific and interesting, as was the editing/storytelling style.
It's a mix of different genre's but probably most dominantly a sort of noire, between the nihilism, gangs, reserved protagonists, and focus on the soul of a city.
I'm not sure I understood it, but I sure as hell liked it. This is the third show with the artstyle of Yoshitoshi ABe, who seems to be significantly involved in the creative process these shows, as I definitely think there is a throughline in Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, and now Texhnolyze.
Also Yoshii is a cool character.
